i think you might be thinking of some kind of active defensive suite against torpedoes. They do exist. And I'm sure that certain Chinese ships will equip them if they haven't already. But this is on CIWS.

oh the stuff about multi-engagement being better with missile is unproven. Type 730 is suppose to be able to handle concurrent supersonic missiles. check an earlier post on goalkeeper.

They should be able detect torpedo coming with Sonar,
in many movies, the command console in sub had often detected torpedoes coming at certain speed and direction and they shown on the screens.

So far I've only seen promotional posters and models of the FL-3000N product. I've not seen an actual testing or production unit.

The Russians have an active torpedo defense system for export:

Yes, movies are a very good source for military information...

Sonar is never perfect; there is always a fudge factor involved, and that depends on salinity, water temperature, weather, etc. It's just not accurate enough to be intercepting high speed objects.

as posted in the aircraft carrier thread already. A new CIWS which is similar to Type 730, but clearly has more barrels.

So, the question is whether the structural changes to the mount itself is solely based on the increased weight and firepower of the wepon, or if there are other changes we don't know about (i.e. something more advanced than type 730)

Maybe it was designed to match the firepower of systems like the CADS-N-1 Kashtan but with a single barrel set.

Guys, by checking this thread, I am surprised you guy didn't have any "shown fact" that the FL-3000N, is a KNOWN FACT, to be on-board of China's carrier?

It is nicknamed "要你命3000", and don't ask why, if you have never watched 周星驰's movie.

Yeah I'm gonna go on a limb here and say Varyag when it enters service will have one of the most capable if not the most capable organic ciws of any carrier.
Hell it'll probably the most capable carrier outside of the Nimitz class simply due to size, defenses and the massive array of sensors at its disposal (yes I'm including the De Gaulle, India's conventional carriers, Kuznetsov, Wasp class and maybe even the QE depending on its airwing).
