I've never seen this before, a new type CIWS of the PLAN? Along the rope, I can see a plastic plate with four Chinese characters. I can read only the last two "勿近": meaning "don't get near"

Looks different from the AK-630 on the 054 (Jiangkai-I) as well as the 022 (Houbei). Could this image be of testing platform?

Well, I have no idea what it is. As I stated in my post "I've never seen it before". Judging from its barrel, it looks like AK-630, but you know, the Russian AK-630 has a rounded turret while this one's turret is angled. Could it be an AK-630 with a new stealthy turret?

What about Taiwan and Japan? Do the characters in the sign come out the same in Japanese language as in mandarin?

Taiwanese also use Han Chinese as their writing language though some of them might try to claim “闽南语” (Mian Nan Yu) as their national language. Japanese is completely different. I can guarantee you the four characters we saw are 100% Chinese though I can only identify two of them, but I guess the meaning is "do not stay near when operating."

I'd agree with Zaky that the gun might belong to the 071. If you enlarge his photo, you'd see a turret in the middle of the ship. It looks extremely like the photo I posted though it is covered by something.

5 minutes later: I zoom the photo and finally I can identify all the four characters "危险勿近" which means "dangerous, stay away".

I was not saying the characters in the sign weren't Chinese ideographs, but just that Chinese ideographs retain their original meaning when used in Japanese writing, and it may be possible in some rare instances the same characters may be used in very short phrases that express the same idea. Someone who knows the Japanese language can easily verify that.

It's confirmed the gun is that of the Type 071 LPD. Take note of the round base and the bell-like thing about a feet beside it. There are four of them in the middle of the LPD.

I knew your exact meaning from the very beginning. Like you said "Someone who knows the Japanese language can easily verify that". I'd like to tell you something: the one who knows Chinese can also verify it. According to my experience, you hardly find one sentence or phrase which sound logical in both languages though both can know the meaning by guessing. For example, "外交部" and "外务省" both mean Foreign Affair Department, but one is Chinese and the other is Japanese. However, this is off topic :eek:ff
