Folks...Blackstone is very direct in his working.

I know him and he is nether a troll, or anti-Chinese.

He is of Chinese lineage himself and generally has a high opinion of China, its culture, and what it has accomplished militarily of late.

But he is not a fan boi and he questions things that are said without very direct proof...and I might add he does so on both sides.

So, Blackstone, realize that many of our members are mainland Chinese and take objection to the tone and try and vacillate a little to avoid the friction.

Others, realize that Blackstone is NOT Anti-Chinese...he is just direct and has a high standard of proof and will hold others to it before he climbs on board.

I thinks with that understanding, both sides should be able to either understand one another and carry on decent, educated, and non-volatile conversations...or, if you can't, just ignore one another and do not respond back and forth in a volatile manner.

Thanks.

This thread is about Chinese Catapult development.

All of the argeument, continual back and forth and discussion about Blackstone since my last post has been deleted.

Let's stay on topic.

As I said above, continue argument, flaming (on both sides) and such will be met in the future here with warning...and consider this the warning to the involved parties. Then suspensions and temporary closing of the thread if that does not work, and if all of that does not work...then longer periods of banning if required.

Pleae folks, let's get back to the topic of this thread.

Thanks you.

Prof. Jin Ji Nan holds a very nice presentation about his experiences oboard a PLAN ship. At around 4:00 he confirms China's 3rd carrier will have a flat deck and a catapult. Construction has been started in March 2015 already.
Yes, I read that over on the CV002 Thread in a post by Bltizo and commented on it there.

As I said, an exciting achievement for the PLAN and will continue to change the balance of power in the western Pacific.

Watch for the Japanese to build another version of the Izumo (which they have already talked about) that is fixed wing aircraft ( meaning F-35B) capable in my opinion and for the South Koreans to follow through with their new Dokdo type vessel that has a ski-jump and is also F-35B capable.

You might even see Australia put some on their Canberras.

In either case...the Chinese with a full blow CATOBAR carrier will have achieved something pretty momentous, and that will be their third carrier.

I do not expect them to stop there.

I expect one more conventionally powered CATOBAR carrier followed by one or more nuclear powered ones through the 2020s...meaning by the 2030 time frame with the two Liaoning stul STOBARs, the two conventionally powered CATOBARs and one or two nuclear powered CATOBAR carriers, they could be approaching six carriers by 2030.

Pretty amazing.

What I would like to see is one with electric CAT. Otherwise it would be quite a disappointment.

There will definitely be an EM catapult equipped carrier in the foreseeable future if things hold a stable course.

But whether the first 002/CV-18 will use EM catapults or steam catapults is not yet known, it may use steam first, but no one really is sure yet.

Taking into account the rumour that 002 began construction in 2015, if one subscribes to the "design is frozen before construction began" theory, then it's most likely that the 002 uses steam catapults. If one subscribes to the "catapult space is modular and can be fitted with catapults after the ship structure is complete", then it remains unknown whether it's steam or EMALS.

yes, back in 2015 i thought it would probably be more likely 002 unit 1 would use steam cat, but over the last year I think that has come under a bit of doubt/leeway.

i think it was fzgfzy that said in march this year that "competing schemes" might lead to "delays"... one of the big interpretations of that referring to catapults.

Even one subscribes to the "frozen" theory, steam cat is not the necessary conclusion. For the above statement to be true, it must be true that steam cat is confirmed to be ready at the time of design freeze. But so far, we only see two different types of cat launching real aircraft, there is no evidence (that we have seen) to support any type (EM or steam) being more advanced in readiness than the other.

I know you don't necessarily subscribe to either of them. I just feel and want to say that the whole thing about steam cat being in the first place in the queue is kind of wishful thinking. It is somehow similar to the "J-31 must be wanted by PLAF" and "Su-35 must be needed by PLAF".
