what kind of advantage would be offered if china were to get one of those vessels? Is it better than what can be produced domestically?

Now, this is a rumor coming from a country that once offered to sell their Su-57s to China and S-400s to the United States. When dealing with such humans, give them a bone to chew on and yourself a good dose of table salt.

Its not a rumor, its the optimistic opinion of a politician. No hurt if they give it a try. But for many reasons I don't see why China would want Buyan-Ms. Maybe Vietnam, seeing them to be satisfied customers of the Gepard class frigates, which are more like modern corvettes. Or India.

Wasn't there some Chinese diesel engines that were exported to Russia for some corvettes? I was thinking it maybe of this class. Oh wait, it is this class, they started substituting engines that were European embargoed with Chinese ones.

I don't see how they could export these corvettes with Chinese engines to India and Vietnam. They will have to find a new supplier not from Europe unless India or Vietnam has to work something out with Germany for the engines.

China may be interested in the concept design of the Buyan, but there is no reason why they must procure actual ships from Russia to make it work. They already have a viable hull in the form of the Type 56A which in comparison of tonnage is actually somewhat under armed when compared to the Buyan. The large hull and displacement allows for greater increase in potential firepower and endurance.

When the MIC of a particular nation has a history of making outlandish claims, it doesn't hurt to be a bit more skeptical. Granted, it may be perfectly reasonable to expect Vietnam to buy some, but I wouldn't be so trusting of any rhetoric from Russia's MIC henceforth.

Aside from the Su-35, any purported Russian deal with China is immediately suspect when it comes to me. Again, I need to emphasize that they had the audacity to claim that the S-400 would be available for sale to the United States.

I can agree with most of what the TASS article states other than the tonnage. Good tonnage? These ships barely reach the 1000 ton mark.

This is simply just another Russian fanboy's wet dream. Here are some past precedents ... in some cases, Russia even offers to export imaginary items!

In terms of naval export however, Russia has seen more success. So this article isn't completely far fetched. Vietnam had operated Gepard class frigates, whilist India still uses the Talwar class frigates as well.
The Karakurtt is not a vaporware seeing as the lead ship had already been launched.
