PLAN Anti-ship/surface missiles

At the risk sounding like a troll, I would like to add one last note to this discussion :
SAM and AshM are not inherently incompatible with each other. The US has long tinkered with the Standard Missile family in a anti-ship missile capacity, and had tested the SM-6 in such a fashion as well.
Given the circumstances, the HQ-9 can function like a anti ship missile if given the correct configuration, this is especially so owning to the large warhead of the missile in question and its range.

Anti ship missile needs active guidance to hit its target, like a radar or optical guidnce chanel.
The SAMs usualy has passive guidance, and the targeting radar gives the target illumination.

The SAM missiles usualy has land attack capability, but it is more like a "last cance" feature, considering situations when there is no other chance like an expensive SAM missile to kill a target.

I don`t think that there is any SAM with ship attack capability.

Nope, many naval SAMs do, and one can regard this as a now standard feature with some few exceptions, like this feature being deleted from CAMMs in order for the RN to save money (CAMMs are small ESSM like SAMs anyway). Plus a few land SAMs. The first version of the Buk didn't have ship attack capability, but the next version after that did have that capability. You can go back as far as the Tanker wars when Perrys fired Standards against Iranian missile boats.

Even with semi active radar guidance, the ship targets the other ship with its illuminators, which directs the SAMs towards it. But remember this is a last resort weapon, and both ships have to be in line of sight, that means close enough to be seen in the horizon. SAMs with active radar guidance can target ships beyond the horizon, but they lack sea skimming capability and can be alerted afar to be hit by another SAM.

The SM-2IIIB can also function as an antiship missile at OTH distances using its passive IR seeker. It may have to be guided during the midcourse by an E-2C/D, however. In other words, turning a SAM into an antiship missile within LOS distances requires only a software modification (if even), whereas targeting a ship OTH requires both software and hardware changes.

Did you really just miss the fact that I have stated that the SM family had been used in such a capacity ?

@Viktor Jav, @Tam, @Iron Man and @Anlsvrthng

Is there a certain reason why you ignore my call to stay on topic??

This is for PLAN Anti-ship/surface missiles and SAMS are not in that category. So either you start a new thread on dedicated PLAN Anti-aircraft missiles and I then will move these posts or I will delete all off-topic posts?

No more ot-posts !!!!

I can't seem to find an honest picture of the YJ-18. Almost all pictures are pretty bogus, a Klub missile that is cut and pasted. No wonder people might think its a copy of a Klub. Other pictures show the missile being launched but the fins are not fully separated.

The one exception I can find is this.

YJ-18_Test (1).jpg

From this it appears to me that the tail fins have an X configuration rather than a cross configuration on the Klub. The diameter appears to be constant, without the shoulder that appears on the Klub as the smaller diameter of the nose meets the larger diameter of the body. There also seems to be a small spine at the top, and the wings are set more forward than the Klub's.

I have seen those but they are still blurry and the main wings were not deployed. But you can make out the tubular spine that seems to clasp the missile like on the 3M54E Klub, along with the sharp, supersonic speed capable nose.
