fzgfzy's update on 001A: Other than the bottom bulbous bow section, it representing the most difficult part of the project (under the water line sections) are basically complete as of Sept-1-2015.

The next phase of construction will be much faster because it's mainly have to do with installing large segment/modules on top of the bottom hull. The outside visible appearance of the hull's progress will accelerate in the next few months. And he likes thank all the people involved in the 001A project for their hardwork and dedication.

And then his joking message to other members in CDJBY who doubted his information: After two years of debate and war of words, the carrier is the big test. This is conclusive. Only time will wash away the dazzle, leaving the truth. Tanker will no longer be a tanker, leaving only the legend of tanker brothers behind. :D

But wasn't it the same guy at CDJBY who was correct about the other projects ? Why would he be wrong on this occasion ?

I didn't say the cdjby pundit is wrong, since I'm willing to believe the object in the photos could or could not be CV001. I'm, however, certain the photos in previous posts don't conclusively show the object is CV001, and there are reasonable explanations to the contrary.

CCTV channel four today's program guest is Professor(Colonel) Liang Fang. She is similar to Professor ZZZ who holds the rank of Lieutenant General from National Defence University of China.

I don't know if PLAN works the same way as USN carrier which needs to conduct numerous carrier qualifications and exercises before declaring fully combat capable and ready for mission. But she comfirmed to the host that Liaoning is now combat capable. And construction of the first homebuilt carrier is in progress.

But some people in the forum point out she is also like Professor ZZZ in a way.( which is not very reliable) She once mention YJ-83 AAM on air..............:p But at least she is the first guest on CCTV comfirming 001A construction in progress.

I don't know about pics conclusively show an aircraft carrier, because the hull in question could still be a new class of large (~40kt) AORs. Should we see hanger elevators, then that changes the argument to CV or LHD/LHA. Until then, I'll wait and see.

Well it won't be an LHD because no well deck can be seen, which should be visible at this stage even now.

It could conceivably be an LHA, and for academic purposes it's worth considering the possibilities but practically I think if by that point we see a hangar structure go up, that would strongly indicate the rumours we've been hearing for the last few years are true... and of course we've had nothing about LHAs being built at DL meaning we have no reason to suspect such a ship is an LHA.

That still leaves the new ~40kt AOR as a possibility.

I was talking about once we see the hangar being built; an AOR wouldn't have a hangar.

And of course the new 40k ton AOR is likely going to be built at GSI, maybe HD. We've had no rumours of the new AOR being built at DL.

It's worth remembering that the only reason we were keeping such a close eye on this ship at DL is because of the rumours suggesting it was a carrier.
We aren't blind observers here; we know what we're expecting so the most practical course of action is to see if the ship in question eventually becomes something which rules out the possibility of it being a carrier.
The constant reminder that it could potentially be an LHA or LHD or an AOR or even a civilian cargo ship is becoming very tiresome, because as long as there's nothing which rules out the possibility that it cannot be a CV it does not tell us any new information.
