Well here's the article where all this talk this time about China's new aircraft carriers on the internet now is coming from. There was another Keck article that had a link to the Chinese document everyone is pointing to but I couldn't access it or it was taken down.
In the article they use this quote to base the nuclear powered assertin on:

"The priority missions of building the aircraft carrier and nuclear-submarines have been carried out smoothly and with outstanding achievements," the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation said in an internal document, reported the media, including the mil.news.sina.com (新浪軍事)and huanqiu.com (環球網).

It is completely unfounded to extrapolate a nuclear carrier from that.

The talk in that quote about nuclear power was in delivering nuclear submarines, not the carrier.

There are lot of articles out today mentioning China's first domestic carriers are going to be nuclear and some say EM catapults too. All those articles seem to refer to the Taiwanese article and that one seems to be referring to some Chinese document that I couldn't access or has been taken down. I have no idea what was stated in the document but every article mentions this is claiming China's first carriers are going to be probably nuclear. Does it say that in the Chinese document? I don't know but like I said, a lot of articles today popping up talking about it.

thanks for posting. I think everyone is trying to speculate nuclear powered, but there is just no evidence that will be the case at the moment. When people are calling the first domestic one type 001A, it sounds to me at least like the carrier will just be a newer design based on CV-16 (Type 001).

No it's not.. basically this paragraph claims that the newly constructed carrier pier in Sanya is the longest in the World..nope.. it is not. The Quay wall at NAS North Island in San Diego is. I've seen three carriers tied up there live and in person..in living color.

Just like this..

to be fair, they use the word "pier" which is different to a "quay" or a "wharf.

I also thought the pier was capable of docking a carrier on either side? Ultimately, I don't see what's to be worked up over, there are various different facilities for carriers to dock and they all have their own claims on number such as length, etc.

And its nothing really ..... the main thing is how many super carriers you got. The length of the pier or wharf is meaningless
