Kuznetsov does indeed have turntables. Visually they're a bit differently marked but they were there on Varyag from the start.

Gentlemen, I accidentally deleted the previous PLAN CV thread. My sincerest apologies to all. I made a attempt to recover the thread but it is gone.

So we must start a new..

Let's try to get up-to-date

as posted by franklin.. oh yes.. I posted this at mp.net.
Ouch. Sorry to hear it. Lots of good stuff there.

Does SD not do a backup occasionally?

Whew, I did not realize it but I posted a LOT on that thread over the last couple of years. That one thread cost me about 300 posts!

Anyhow, glad you got the new one going. I am sure we will catch up and be back up to speed pronto.

The turn table does turn. it allows them to turn the aircraft into the hanger deck.

The US has no such mechanism...and it is a big and complex mechanism that could fail or be damaged.
Big and complex like a catapult. Anyway, without the turn table, parking space would have to be devoted to maneuvering space and would reduce the amount of planes that can be carried.

I have never seen such a mechanism on the Kuznetsov, but admittedly have not paid that close of attention to it. They may have one, but I was unaware that the did. Perhaps one of our Russian brothers could shed some light on it.

There is a vide that shows this apparatus turning on one of the new videos of the latest exercise. Starting at about 1:22 of this video:

Yes, and catapults, for the purposes of putting larger, heavier and more diverse aircraft into the air are required, and there are four of them, so any one does not have that great an impact. Such a turntable is not absolutely necessary, though I admit it does make the maneuvering job easier entering the hanger.

OUSTANDING pic. And there it is.

Thanks. Clearly a feature passed right along with the carrier itself.

Yeah, not as brightly marked but nonetheless. The aircraft elevators on Liaoning is somewhat smaller than those on the Nimitz class, as well as the hanger space, thus there's not that many room to do n-pointed turn inside the hanger, turntable will be the faster recourse, though that also mean some more stuff to vulnerable to malfunction.

So, it there only one, or one for each elevator. I would suspect that each elevator had one.

The other pic I saw somewhere else is the forward elevator position and it got its own turntable there, that means a turntabe at each elevator position, and it makes perfect sense too.

Here's another thing that should be added back to this thread with respect to the Liaoning and the PLAN's aircraft carrier and naval aviation aspirations.

This facility is a testament to the PLANs achievements and commitment in regards to naval aviation and its future in the PRC:

Here is a photo of the Kuznetsov hangar full of Flankers. It seems to me that they just park (spot) the planes on the turn table.
