PLAAF Breaking News (including articles with Pictures or videos)
Where else would I put it under? The CCTV-7 episode shows a recent PLAAF excercise and includes a video ... and multiple PLAAF jets. Is there anything wrong?!?

Where else would I put it under? The CCTV-7 episode shows a recent PLAAF excercise and includes a video ... and multiple PLAAF jets. Is there anything wrong?!?

First of all, the thread title says "including articles WITH pictures or videos", not "including articles, pictures, and videos". What you posted is not breaking news or an article; what you posted is an animated GIF.

Secondly, how is a regular PLAAF exercise breaking news? What's so different about this exercise that warrants it being mentioned here? Were they practicing fighting off Martian invaders, intercepting astroids, or chasing down an UFO? Might you also in the future bring us regular updates on PLAAF's scheduled bathroom breaks as they occur in real time? Moreover, if you have a breaking news video, then link to the video directly with a description on why it is breaking news. Do not post an animated GIF if there is a video available. Animated GIFs are invariably low quality and taxing on page rendering.

Thirdly, your description, and I quote, "Nice and comprehensive PLAAF exercise angle" sounds suspiciously like an attempt to picture dump on a thread reserved for breaking news articles and other illuminating information. If you want to share what you regard as cool photos or videos, find the correct threads in which to post them. In this particular case, there are dedicated threads for J-10 and JH-7, so post them there.

Lastly, I would like to remind you again. SDF is not a fanboy site. What passes for acceptable behavior elsewhere will not do here. This is not me being a snob or mean-spirited. Our members have worked very hard to keep SDF professional, organized, and many cuts above the bilge bays such as Defence.pk, Indiandefence.com, and Chinese Military Forum. What can I say? We like to keep our lawns manicured and our houses clean inside and out. Furthermore, SDF has fairly simple and clear guidelines, and almost without exception, they are easy to follow. Your inability to comprehend them is severely wanting.

Guys ... please take a rest!

I agree with You @by78 that SDF is quite different to other forums, both in the way we handle certain issues here, what is posted and the way how it is posted.

That might be strange for newcomers - and therefore @Figaro & @by78 I would like to ask You both to be patient with each other.

Indeed posting gifs is meaningless, they are only bandwidth-consuming and irrelevant but if You want to post the news concerning this exercise please post the original video, a link to it or a brief summary, that would be SDF-style. On the other side I would not call hi post "an attempt to picture dump", since in other threads too we often have much more irrelevant off-topic post or posts of images without any additional info ... something I deem quite nasty.

And please don't take each and every complain as a personnel offence.

China’s new air force chief lays out long-range mission

Military wing must broaden horizons from homeland defence to meet changing security needs, commander says

PUBLISHED : Monday, 04 September, 2017, 12:18am

(SCMP) China’s new air force commander said the military must build up strength in long-range missions to realise its goal of becoming a “strategic” airborne unit, state media reported on Sunday.

Speaking publicly for the first time since taking over as chief of the People’s Liberation Army Air Force, Lieutenant General Ding Laihang said the military wing had to be strong in attack and defence both in the air and in space, moving on from its previous focus on homeland defence, China National Radio reported.
Ding made the comments during an inspection of the PLA Air Force Aviation University in Changchun, Jilin province, on Friday.

He was widely tipped last month to become head of the 420,000-strong air force, and his appointment was finally confirmed on the weekend when the defence ministry posted a report online about the inspection.

Addressing about 1,000 new trainee pilots on the university’s orientation day, Ding said the Chinese air force was undergoing “an unprecedented deep reform”.

He later said the force’s strategic mission relied on being able to “go out” further than before.

“This requires the ability to project power and make strikes over long distances. Exercises on the open seas will become a regular part of training,” Ding said.

He said that as China’s power grew, it had to face more security threats.

“The PLA must provide full, all-out and absolute protection to wherever our national interests extend,” he said.

“The air force is gradually expanding its blue-water training, and its weapons and equipment, communication systems, supplies and aviation search-and-rescue skills must catch up with the mission.”

Ding said the air force had already secured some air corridors for long-distance missions.

Hong Kong-based military commentator Song Zhongping said the Chinese air force still had many weaknesses to overcome before it could project power over big distances.

The biggest needs were more heavy aircraft and a new strategic bomber to replace the H-6K, an outmoded design.

Ding also stressed the need for pilots and aircraft to be able to operate throughout the country.

“From the islands to the plateaus, from the fringes to the extremes of cold and heat, our pilots must be capable of any urgent missions in all sorts of conditions to meet President Xi Jinping’s expectations of the air force,” he said.

Ding was formerly air force commander of the Shenyang Military Region from 2012.

His career overlapped with Xi’s in Fujian province in the early 2000s after he was named chief of staff of the Eighth Corps based in Fuzhou in 2001 and went on that year to lead the air force in the city.

Xi was governor of the province from 2000 to 2002.

Ding graduated from the PLA Air Force Command College. He became president of the college in 2007 and a year later took over as air force chief of staff of the then Chengdu Military Command.

China's new generation of military pilots starts training
Source : CRI Editor Zhang Tao
Time : 2017-09-04

More than a thousand new cadets have been inducted into China's Air Force Aviation University.

They'll go on to be the next generation of pilots, and fly the J-20 jet fighter and Yun-20 transport aircraft.

During a ceremony on Friday, September 1, the PLA's air force commander, Ding Laihang, inspected more than 2,000 trainee pilots, including the new recruits who come from 31 different provinces in China, and who were selected from 120,000 high school graduates who applied for the air force program.

In a speech, Ding said unprecedented changes had taken place in China's air force, and he encouraged the new cadets to play their part in creating a more powerful Chinese air Force.

With the changing face of the Chinese air force, so too the training regimen for cadet pilots has been upgraded. Changes to education requirements, and earlier access to flight training, has dramatically shortened the training cycle of tomorrow's pilots.
