The complexity of these exercises seem to be growing significantly year by year. Not a surprise, but still nice to see.

I wish we could have some satellite photos of progressive aircraft at Dingxin over the years during these exercises.

What are the differences between Red Sword and Blue Shield again? One of them revolves more around A2G, and the other around A2A I believe, but I'm not sure which. And what is Golden Dart?
I'm aware that Golden Helmet is more of a tailored A2A exercise series where the "best" pilots compete.

Exist a range for training, realist excercises to Dingxin as Americans do to Nellis, Fallon with also ECM, simulated Integrated Air Defense System etc... ?

I definitely is bigger.
I wonder if it's a replacement for the old ECM pod we saw on JH-7/As in the previous decade or so.

Also, any idea what the missile/pod(?) next to the LT-2 LGB is? It kind of looks like a KD-88 without fins but I'm not sure if the proportions are exactly right, and the markings on it aren't like what we've seen with KD-88 either afaik

Seems as if I was correct; Huitong calls this pod the KG800

I wonder if that's its real designation or if he's extrapolating it.

I also wonder if this pod replaces the older jamming pods we saw in JH-7/As... and also if J-16D would use this pod as well or use a new type of pod given it is more tailored to the EW/ECM role.

Some incredible new images showing the participants of the PLAAF Red Sword 2016 exercise on 17.11.16 at Dingxin.

Looks like the Chinese BBS have discovered terraserver too.

also interesting that the flankers are identified as J-16s. I thought their paint scheme looked a bit exceptionally grey and different to Su-30s and J-11Bs of course, and obviously it makes sense for them to be J-16s.

I suspect Red Sword is focused on offensive attack/strike missions, while blue shield is focused on area defense. Golden Dart is probably pure A2A combat.
