Wider geopolitical developments cannot be ignored.

With the Greens winning power in Taiwan, tensions in Korea, and various nations making waves in the SCS, I would expect China to have heightened military readiness in response, if only as a precaution.

The sudden cut off of military related leaks is a likely precurser to the PLA moving into a higher readiness state, as they will want to keep that under wraps as much as possible.

Does anyone know how the PLAAF did in the Air exercises in Thailand and previous Shaheen exercises? I heard from a friend that the PLAAF lost to the Thai's in Falcon Strike 2015, again IDK if he heard it from a reliable source or not, I think a rather lost part of the PLAAF's modernization is that of its pilot training, and I really want to know how the PLAAF did in these exercises, thank you in advance.

That would be great to know. One of the things that is relatively unknown are the general skill levels of plaaf and plan pilots but an educated guess would be inferior to the levels of NATO pilots and her close allies. Chinese pilots can sharpen their skills if they regularly fly against PAF and RuAF. They have pretty decent pilots.
DACT training is also crucial. You have to train against all types of aircraft to maintain that edge. In the case of plaaf their pilots need to consistently go up against Vipers, bugs and eagles to improve. There is no shortcut.

J-11's won all the close dog fights. Lost BVR fights 4:0 to Thailand SAAB's.

Similar to what happened when Su-27SK/J-11As went against J-10s in simulated engagements... except the J-10s also won the dogfights. The early Flankers have obsolete avionics, even J-8 variants like the J-8H and J-8F have better BVR engagement ability. And Flankers will never be able to compete with nimble delta-canards assuming pilot skill is similar.

@A.Man Okay, thanks!, and this definitely shows the urgency to induct new aircraft to replace the older equipment in PLA service. Although, I'm very surprised at the fact that the J-11A is that lacking in BVR, hopefully they either get replaced soon by J-11D's or they get some sort of upgrade to their avionics.

@kwaigonegin Yeah, at least the PLAAF has Red/Blue Sword Exercises that are similar to Red Flag, and the Shaheen exercises definitely seem to be a good opportunity to exercise with the PAF pilots, albeit I'm a bit surprised there hasn't been any major air exercises between the PLAAF and RuAF.
