Yes he is.. if you'd check the http://www.sinodefenceforum.com/wor...ld-armed-forces-pictures-thread-100-1217.html thread you'd know the caption sez..

Yeh, I saw that. :p
What I mean is how similar the uniform looks to the original WWII panzer crew uniform.

And why is he equipped with full size G36???

Isn't it too large for the tank crew? I think even G36C is too large for the tank crew isn't it?

I would presume most German tank crews would use HK MP7, or even P90 (not that the German would buy them from Belgium - they got their own Heckler & Koch to supply themselves :D)

Re: PLA Uniforms

I've merged 5 PLA uniform threads into one thread. One dates back to 2005! Many of the older photos maybe missing if they were hosted by a now defunct photo hosting site or if they were hot linked. Never the less there's interesting reading in this thread! Enjoy!!

I have no clue. Maybe he's a ground pounder supporting the Panzer brigade. I don't write the captions ya' know...

As I posted when I first saw that photo I posted with that photo .."20th century badassery at it's finest!"

Re: PLA Uniforms

I think the current PLA uniforms are alright... remember some of them are elite, others less so. The pictures of the PLA SOF operating with the PLAN in somalia wear uniforms which are up to par, I think -- with knee pads and strong looking body armour etc.

And remember the doctrines of the PLA and US Army are quite different, I think the US these days focus a lot more on carrying a lot of gear on one soldier while the PLA obviously is less.

This picture:

is pretty good -- the soldiers are up to par, with pouches and body armour and good fitting helmet etc.

Also, if you can find pics of the pilots who flew for August 1 performing at last years zhuhai airshow, they also look pretty up to par with Western pilots.

The PLA should have better uniforms over time as they get more funding... Remember the PLA overall are still quite underfunded compared to other militaries, "per capita". And I feel the Type 07 combat uniforms look alright.
Comparing the PLA uniform's looks is really superficial as well, and it's kind of just picking on them. They look fine for the kind of funding they get.

Okay okay I am just playin'

That's not body armour. That's just normal load bearing vest. I don't think that thing stops ANY bullet.

Body Armour / ballistic vest is a lot thicker than that.

EDIT:
Okay I found these pics :

See, these ones, they look far more substantial - a lot thicker and have more rooms to put those boron carbide plates.

Re: PLA Uniforms

Can a moderator please change the title of this thread to PLA logistics or something similar? I think we should dedicate this thread to the more basic aspects to the PLA, such as field kitchens, water purifiers, tents, MREs, and etc.

Anyways, found some new pics of PLA logistics.

First let's look at the MREs. Napoleon once said the troops have to march with their stomachs full. The personnel in the USN strike groups wouldn't be as diligent if wasn't for the fancy lobster and steak dinners they get everyday.

I have seen many MREs coming out of the PLA, but this is the most comprehensive review and best packed, so I'm doing this one as a starter to this series.

Type 06 - #1

2107684625610708282.jpg

Here's grand shot of the whole package.

2200008417971789843.jpg

This is the assorted rice, which is very similar to Mexican rice you see in Latino restaurants, often consists of rice, red beans, black beans, and etc. You don't find this often in Chinese cuisine, at least I personally never ate anything like this before, I guess they probably just added it because these beans are filling and are nutritious.

PS: This fan, the one doing the review, ate this cause he forgot to bring lunch to work. I guess he probably stockpiled quite a bit of these MREs at work.

Here's the heat pack. He said it wasn't too hard trying to open this package. He once review the US MRE, which was infamous for hard to open.

I personally heard the rumour saying that the US version of MRE is almost bullet proof, not sure if this is true.

This is a small water pack that comes with the heat pack, it's said "do not consume" on the package. This is a pretty sweet thought, since finding water would often be hectic in the battle zone. With this small water packet, you won't have to go search for water or waste your own drinking water to heat up your food.

3346455998113657516.jpg

The heating pack inflated from the steam.

2203104642715817181.jpg

Fried Rice. This takes longer than microwave, but does the job in the wilderness.

1607503591995799000.jpg

The assorted fried rice. It looks weird to me for some reasons. Never seen beans in fried rice before.

PS: notice the spoon that comes in the package.

3335196999044721850.jpg

Hot sauce, similar to Old Frank's tobasco sauce that's in the American counterpart.

3394025269177782949.jpg

This is called pork egg roll, but it's really just something similar to pork spam sandwiched between egg cake.

Type 06 - Instant Meal #1
This is similar to the "First Strike Ration", which requires no heating or preparation. You can just unwrap it and start eating; aimed at personnel that are in the middle of a conflict.

1881941694289267757.jpg

The packaging is very small.

1416945032762766933.jpg

It contains the pork egg roll I mentioned earlier, pressed biscuits (old timers probably remember this), energy bar (personally never seen this in China, probably learned this from western counterparts), drink crystals, and pickled vegetables.

1589770668463060993.jpg

2218867241411425868.jpg

This energy bar thing is too sweet, almost like pop tart. It's made with corn bread like thing on the outside, sandwiched with bean paste or some sort of sugar filling. This guy stopped half way through and gave the rest to his daughter.

This is it for today, Ill post more later on.

Re: PLA Uniforms

Bah, the links are dead. Any idea if these screw up your stool if you eat them for too long? I wouldn't be surprised if they did. I hear the American MREs do that.

Yep.. I'll change it to PLA Uniforms and kit.

Really. I did not know that. But I know 20 years ago when I was on the Nimitz in the Persian Gulf region we had steak and lobster about three times a week.. not everyday. And we always had a fully stocked salad bar. The USN has been serving hot meals at sea 24/7/365 for over 100 years. Get over yourself.

Bah, the links are dead.

That's because pugachev_diver hot linked his photos. Next time use a photo hosting site such a photobucket or imageshack!
