PLA Small arms

Are these actual PLA small arms? Because I could have sworn I saw a Canadian Type 97 in there. :)
If you see them with STANAG magazine then they're export variant, and if you see them sporting MIL-STD-1913 rail then those are aftermarket modkit and used by police SWAT or PAP special forces outfits.

PLA don't have that kind of luxury.

Probably here only the CS-LR3/4 falls under the exception rule, which the PLA is rumoured have procured a small batch for their special forces outfit.

Before we begin, let's say what kind of an arse would put the "rat tail" in that position?

Now get back to the gun...
1. Hopefully the selector is either on both side or changeable at basic maintenance level, if so then I won't have too much complain there until further higher resolution pics points out more fatel flaws;
2. Stock seems non-folding but perhaps telescopic?
3. Short strips of rail on sides and below, and full-length on the tail;
4. Front sight is foldable, don't know about the rear one though.

Not going to comment on the grip, because it seems to be COTS stuff just to showcase how the bottom rail can be accessorised. Not to mention that grip ain't for carbines, carbines use shorter vertical grips typically.

Lastly, don't know if this iteration is still in prototype stage or in final trial?

Agreed That is leading to a presure tape meant to activate the light on as needed basis not a always on. Placing it on the grip is stupid 2 folr first now it's likely to be on all the time the weapon is gripped secon it blocks the travel of the charging handle

Looks like there may be a mechenisum for adjusting the stock in the opening of the stock.

That fits you really don't need full length of rails most of them get covered on full Rails as they dig into the skin. This is also why Key Mod and M-Lok are gaining popularity.

I think rear flips to. all it needs is the peep to be up.

[/quote] Actually using a VFG like that on a carbine like a M4 is fine. even a short barrel like this is Okay now If it was a SMG I would totally agree.

That's the question.

I am more convinced this is a Evolution of the QBZ03 now they put her in new skin but the Layout of the ejection port Charging handle profile of the lower is almost Identical.

I'm really liking the look of that mag release.

Looks like it's actioned by pulling it towards the trigger guard (simply not anything like enough room between release and trigger guard for it to work like a traditional AK mag release).

That means the shooter can release a spent mag with his trigger finger while his off-hand only need to grab a replacement and slam it home.

That should significantly cut reload times.

Stock looks telescopic (release seems to be in the cut out) and also changeable (button/screw just below rear sights).

Overall interesting mod of the 03, although I do wonder if it's an export variant.

If it is a PLA intended version, I would expect the rails to be a non-1913 compatible proprietary rail system uniquely selected by the PLA.

I don't think it's a straight evolution of the Type 03 because changes seems to be extensive enough to warrant it as a new design.

Magazine seems to be similar wiht the QBZ-95 series type if not the same, unless the Chinese intended to introduce the 5.8mm caliber to international market, something I highly doubt. If they intended it for export market, it should either sport a STANAG (5.56mm) or AK (7.62mm or 5.45mm) magazine.

Yet more mods... I have no idea if these are 'official' PLA experiments or private endeavors. What is clear is that they've been experimenting with the type-95 for a while now, and I think it's about time that they completely re-design the upper and lower receivers instead of dicking around with these unwieldy mods. Get rid of that carrying handle please. Just let it go... It will make the re-design much easier.

In any event, I suspect the PAP and Airborne will get first dibs at whatever they come up with next...

Speaking of the Airborne troops, this is allegedly the new kit they will be sporting (according to some guy on Weibo)....

Now I wonder if this new assault rifle is destined for the Airborne corp...
