Chinese use of modern crossbow was more of a "learn from the West" process, not so much of the nostalgia...see, by late Ming Dynasty the Chinese began to step away from crossbow, and progress on warfare technology of all sort almost ground to a halt - or worse, regressed - during most of the Qing Dynasty. And in the last 2 centuries, progress and refinements made on crossbow technology were all done in the West.

Now I really want to start a topic on crossbows under the history section.

i noticed people say crossbow are stealthy, but wont the bolt give away the direction of the shooter? it's pretty obvious if the guy dropping dead next to u fell on his face, with an arrow sticking out of his back, someone fired the chopstick from that direction?

It's more for Sound then Direction, Presumably if they are taking on multiple targets they would have more then one shooter or wait until there is some separation. I Think it may be an indication that The PLA PAP Sound suppressors are not that good a problem they would have in common with the Russians. The Russians too solve this Created The VAl and Vintorez. In Nato until Suppressors got as good as they are now the SMG was the Answer in particular the HK MP5SD. The Chinese May instead prefer the Crossbow.

Silenced weapons are ment to take out individual sentries. The shooter would wait till the guard's buddies are away to pick him off, or other shooters will also take out the other guards nearby at the same time. If someone out of sight saw the body falling that's really bad luck and would have the same results no matter what weapon was used.

I believe another area where the crossbow would be superior to silenced weapons is armour penetration. The crossbow bolt delivers a pretty large amount of kinetic energy on target, and I feel it would be pretty effective against kevlar armour, which would be able to reliably stop the subsonic rounds most silenced weapons use.

modern suppressors in the west actually increase muzzle vilocity usually by afactor of ten to twenty fps. on a dmr or sniper weapon the goal is single kill. however suppresed automatics are useful or a number of reasons ranging from lowering chances of giving away one's position to the enemy in the feild decreasing the danger of hearing loss in close quarters inside building fighting to confusing the enemy (the sound of the weapons fire can seem too be coming from the opposet direction of actual fire.)

Ther are a number of "Wanta be" Corner shots in the world China Already had one this makes two. some are very simple as simple as a mirror on the top of a AR too as complex as full on Copies. this seems like a option for poorer Police Forces.

They better modernized and upgraded type-81, make them lighter and make their mechanism work well with :7.62x39 (original), 5.56x45 (they gonna need this when confront enemy that use the same ammo), and domestic caliber 5.8x42. And make version for sniper, LMG, carbine voi-la. Rather than make something else wasting time and wasting money, and didn't work well!

I am Sure a mod will be along too welcome you shortly and point too the rules thread. but Welcome anyway. Second I am not sure your suggestions would be the right Idea, First I think your Aiming them at the wrong target this is likely aimed more at LE then Armed services second If the PLA should be investing I think A medium Weight General Purpose Machine gun either a material update of the type Type 67-2 or a scale up of the QJY 88 as well as Adoption of a 7.62 or better class DMR. with a few Upgrades the Type 95 and Oh they already beat you too it Qbz03 already fill the jobs of the type 81.

Hey guys check out the vid below:

@7:18 onwards there's a report on the PLA HK garrison conducted CT exercise on 30/6, especially @8:21...check out the christmas tree attachments on the pointman's QBZ-95.
It's no news that they make these M1913-spec rail system add-ons for QBZ-95 but those are all private ventures and targets primary the police and SWAT outfits that equips QBZ-95, not the army. So, given the special status of the HK garrison, could that be individual trooper's initiative (not likely) or the unit actually test out such things?
But as we all know, QBZ-95-1 already finished testing, and no indication pointing the PLA would adopt the M-1913 rail system.
