PLA Small arms

My bad, I forgot to check if it was already posted. Though, the picture did happen to catch my eye, as I have never seen any PLA regulars with optics like that on their rifles. Come to think of it, the only times I've seen PLA regulars equipped with imported/cloned foreign weapon attachments are the Peacekeepers in South Sudan. Is it safe to assume that the units deployed in South Sudan are acting as guinea pigs to test weapon attachments?
Apparently some outfits were given discretion to field test some kits, whether it's issued by HQ or trialed by the unit on their own is unknown, though.

Texture look like matt, so I don't think it's gold-plated but sand colored.

Then the recent US Army bid picked P320 should be music to your ears I think? Daymn that thing has insane possibilities for customization, like the only serialised piece is the trigger block, and just about everything else can be swapped out, the knowhow requirement level is field-stripping the pistol...

Mk-23 Mod 0 is a reliable kit, alas it's end-user found it not as ideal…fault lies in USSOCOM original tender requirement, H&K simply delivered it per-spec.
Main issue is the size of the MK23 which is well... 79k2FYF.jpg
I mean M9 is a big pistol at 8.5 inches, but this is almost 10 inches long before mounting the suppressor. Add the suppressor and it's almost 17 inches or roughly as long as a full sized uzi minus the stock. The Fact that HK then produced the USP with the USP Tactical in the came caliber and chambering being 9 inches followed by the Compact tactical which knocking down to a 7 inches. and eventually it's successor the HK45, add that even when used the 9mm was and remains the prefered caliber the same and the reason for its sunset should be obvious.
Too much gun.
The Chinese Equivalent the QSW-06 is almost 8 inches minus the suppressor.

There's a rearmament order for a new unannounced modular service rifle. Production for this order is said to take the next 2-3 years.

Tactical Imports revealed this when they had talks with a Poly rep of one of those factories, to find out the reason for the delays in their Canadian civilian T81 order.

If we go by that account, that means the new AR project not only have passed the bidding phase but also gearing up for production phase? If they've set aside production schedule for 2-3 years to churn out the new rifle series, probably means at this time they're preparing the toolings and etc.? Things went much further ahead than previously known.

Also, what precedes the new AR series is the government order of 30,00 T81 rifiles...now, that's not a big run but neither a small production run either, and why'd the Chinese government placed such an order? For exports? But if it's for export, why not a pure export order?

Plus the $50 mil Type 56 gov order before that, and its only for TI's arranged factory. After that it's the production run on that new rifle among those selected factories from the sound of it. The T56 & 81s are most likely for foreign state sale via factory order by Beijing. There's probably still a lot of surplus in storage for training purposes.

The $50m is the mentoned 30k Type 81 contract from the Chinese gov't. Question is, who'd still use Type 81 in such quantities today anyway? It's not likely that the militia and other auxiliary organizations burned through their hand-me-down stockpile of Type 81 that fast, right?

But what'd be really interesting is about the next 2-3 years production quota allotment - if the rumored new AR model is the selected candidate, that'll make China the second one - after France - that leave the bullpup camp.

And come to think of it, the 50m contract doesn't make sense with the numbers...now, Tactical Imports tagged $999 per Type 81 on their website, assuming that's the per-unit cost (which in reality would be less of course but that's not the point here), whether the price tag in USD or CAD, 30,000 guns still won't add up to $50m, what's the deal with that extra $20m?

Did something missed?

We have been informed the production plan for 2017 was developed and the T81 production run was officially scheduled for this July. The factory has a 50 million dollar government contract for AK’s that has to be produced first. They are on maximum capacity with nothing else being produced until this is finished. Once this is done however, we are first on the list.

There was a Type 56 (AK) run last year which pushed TI's Type 81 order together with the state order to this July. TI customers had waited painstakingly patiently for a good year with 2 previous ETA's past, turns out this was why. But yeah, it will be interesting too see if this is a first of many more orders to come. Sounds like QBZ95's true successor than a complementary rifle like QBZ03.

So, in front of TI's batch there a Type 56 order and that 30,000 Type 81 order, both are government contract? Or both lumped together costs $50m in total? Y'know, folks in the West typically grouped Type 81 into the AK family as well, despite it's more of an off-shot.

Yep, TI's original date of delivery was Q3 2016 and then winter 2017, with no word from Poly other than a larger existing military order. There seems there was miscommunication between factory and Polytec.

Yeah but I'm sure TI knows what his saying when he says AK. Canadian sellers and gun owners of East bloc arms are explicit to tell the differences between AK to VZ 58 and now Type 81, thanks to nonsense gun laws around the AK ban.
