PLA missile defense system

Quickie

Colonel
The Chinese Foreign Affair spokeswoman said the test caused no debris in space orbit, this mean the point of intercept must be in the inner space. so what is the likely attitude of intercept, can a modified HQ-9 do that?

The point of intercept was reported to be in the exo-atmosphere. So, the defence system would be something like the ASAT involving possibly a kinetic kill vehicle. The HQ-9 may be too small to be modified to carry such a vehicle.

At low enough altitude, the debris could possibly just burn up after going a number of orbits. Edit: Opps, forget that the target missile may not be at orbital speed. So, the debris could also just fall to the ground.

yup the pentagon already said the collision was exo-atmostpheric.

U.S looks dumbfounded when they heard China announced the successful of the missile test.

It seems like U.S have no pre-intelligence reporting to indicate that China was going to do the missile test. All that GPS and SAT cannot detect it??

Is it possible for China to lye or deceive the world?? No pictures or evidence to point to such action have taken place except we have to believe what the Chinese officials are telling us.

China did not notify US before anti-missile test: Pentagon
(AFP) – 4 hours ago

WASHINGTON — China did not notify the United States in advance of a missile defence test and Washington has asked Beijing to clarify its intentions with the intercept weaponry, the Pentagon said on Tuesday.

"We did not receive prior notification of the launch," said Pentagon spokeswoman Major Maureen Schumann.

"We detected two geographically separated missile launch events with a exo-atmospheric collision also being observed by space-based sensors," she said after China announced a successful test of its missile intercept system.

"The US is requesting information from China regarding the purpose for conducting this interception as well as China's intentions and plans to pursue future types of intercepts," she said.

Analysts described the test as a show of China's advanced air defence capabilities amid tensions over US arms sales to Taiwan.

US officials have repeatedly urged China to be more open about its military spending and programs to avoid possible misunderstandings.

China raised international concerns in 2007 when it destroyed one of its own orbiting satellites with a missile.

This week's test came soon after a US official in Taipei said the Pentagon had approved the sale of Patriot missile equipment to Taiwan as part of a package passed by Congress more than a year ago.

Beijing -- which considers Taiwan part of its territory and has vowed to take the island back, by force if necessary -- has repeatedly voiced its opposition to the sales and urged Washington to cancel the deal.

China had warned at the weekend that it reserved the right to take unspecified action if Washington followed through with the sale, which it called a "severe obstacle" to China-US military ties.

The US is dumbfounded for very good reasons. US conducted it's ASAT tests in the mid 80's, and China in 2007: a difference of 21-3 years (I don't remember exactly when the American tests were). Some 12-15 years later, the US conducted an anti-missile test (the last year or so of the Clinton period). China, follows precisely 3 years later. China covered 12-15 years in just 3, and went from being 20-something years behind to about 10 years behind, in just 3 years. Of course, I don't know the details of the tests and I cannot compare. But IMHO, this is exactly the kind of quick advance China needs in order to survive - peacefully - in this nasty world.

i guess it shouldn't be surprising
if we think about it, for the past 2 major anniversaries, the PLA boasts of its missile systems. from HQ-9 to DF-31A. this shows how much emphasis china puts into its missile programs and regards to the 2nd artillery.

actually i also think that china has being able to close this generation gap due to its spies on US soil and we witneess over the decade

The US ASAT test was fired from a F-15, which is a whole lot simpler than firing the missile from the ground in terms of missile design and guidance.

The US did not conduct a ground based ASAT test until 2008.

Three-stage ballistic missile flight
The first phase of a missile fired from a launcher to the missile flying out of the atmosphere of the process, this stage is the flight within the atmosphere, commonly known as the ascending missile.

The second stage is the missile flying out of the atmosphere outside the target area in the atmosphere outward flight had said that, generally known as mid-flight.

The third stage is the missile to reach the target area over the vicinity of atmospheric re-entry, hit the target process, commonly referred to as re-entry phase, or re-entry.

Interception and interception the last paragraph of the middle completely different, "Patriot 3", S-300 and S-400 were not able to fill the middle ground-based interceptor missile defense mission.

Mid-block and the last paragraph of the block height, scope, goals are different from the middle of a combat anti-missile interceptor system.
* Mid-interceptor missile is a "small missile"
