Israelis have a pretty good relationship with chinese defence industries. no harm done even after the whole thing.

Israel backed off after tremendous pressure was put on them from the Americans to back off on the awacs.

Phalcon was prob a low risk, faster solution. but they do have a parallel domestic program that was accelerated as result of cooperation.

even after the whole thing was officially terminated, they prob helped them out alot. people who worked together for years on same project and developed close working relationships jsut don't stop talk to each other.

IAI didn't walk away empty handed from this also, the whole thing provied them with another solution for Phalcon platform, and they did fine with the indian sales.

(actually come to think of it Indian airforce chose the worst solution, those experts at 14th Institute prob knew Phalcon like back of their hands... )

it's a bit of geopolitical hedging too.

China didn't pay extra for their technology.

even back in the 80s, china traded some of its own technology for israeli's technology

don't necessarily they provided a fullset of stuff or design,
just send some experts on a tour and wink and nod sometimes will save tons of time by avoiding going down a different route.

Indeed, Israel's good defense relationship with China, especially during the 80s was more a political decision rather than a purely commercial one Israel's part, since China didn't really have all that much cash back then.

The Israeli president even made a Chinese new year greeting message to China this year.

And because of this close relationship, China will not go too far in raising objections or actively create much political trouble for Israel in the UN if Israel 'preemptively strikes' someone or crushes another Palestinian uprising.

Israel has a similar 'deal' with all the other P5 members bought with money, technological co-operation, cultural affiliations or a combination of them.

With the major powers mollified or in their pocket, the smaller powers either all fall in line, or do not have the clout to do much no matter how angry they are with Israel's decisions or actions.

The Israelis know how politics works and play the game well to their advantage.

Yes, during the Iran-Iraq war Israel sold many weapons to Iran and even helped integrate US air-to-air missles on Iranian F4s and F5s

Israel also supplied shipsments of Hawk surface to air missiles to Iran during 1980s (note this was after the Iranian revolution in 1979)

also during Lebanon invasion in 1982 Israel captured Hezbollah weapons which were provided by then the Soviet Union, these weapons were in a secret dealing with Pakistan sold to the Afghan Mujahideen to be used again Soviets, basically Soviets were being attacked by thier owns weapons in Afghanistan

if the money is right Israel can do anything
