  Air Police 500 is the most advanced early warning aircraft that China has already publicized. It has been equipped with Chinese Air Force and Naval Air Force in batches. Looking at the shape alone, the Air Police 500 is very similar to the ZDK-03 type AWACS aircraft sold to the Pakistan Air Force. They are equipped with large-sized disc-shaped fairings on the back of the Yun-9 and built-in large airborne radar. But in fact, the internal structure of the two is completely different.

  Airborne 500's radar installation method is the same as that of Air Police 2000. It uses three-sided fixed-front active phased array radar, each responsible for 120-degree search range, forming 360 full-time real-time scanning field of view. In contrast, the traditional mechanical rotary scan of the US E-3 early warning aircraft has a delay of several seconds in the full-scale search. The large fairing rotates to affect the aerodynamics and control. The Israeli "Felcom" early warning aircraft adopts a conformal mode. Although the aerodynamic influence is small, the radar size in the front and rear direction is limited by the body, and the front and rear direction is "myopia", which is not a true 360 degree coverage.

  The radar installation method of Air Police 500 and Air Police 2000 was pioneered by the Chinese, which not only ensured the radar's full range of detection distance, but also reduced the aerodynamic interference to a minimum. Air Police 500 uses a new generation of radar component materials and processes, and the detection range is more than 40% higher than that of Air Police 2000. It is one of the best performance early warning aircraft in the world.

  In addition to the high level of radar hardware, the "internal power" of the Air Police 500 is also very good. The Yun-9 developed by the aviation industry Shaanxi Fei is a medium-sized transport platform, and the internal space is not particularly large. In order to ensure the performance of various functions, the CLP has fully reduced the size and weight of the subsystems such as radar power supply, cooling, data calculation, communication command, and display control, which are extremely large in size and weight. In this way, the weight of the aircraft platform was greatly reduced, and the time required to stay in the air was up to 10 hours, achieving a "small platform warning."

  According to the latest publicly available news photos of the Air Force, it can be seen that the internal control console of the Air Police 500 is very neat and orderly. All displays and control equipment are modular in design, mounted on a curved aluminum alloy bracket and with the side walls of the cabin. Leave a room for one person. Compared with the design of the European and American early warning aircraft in the past, the architecture is more open. Just like the computer case, what components are aging and damaged, it can be easily repaired and replaced behind the display console. And considering the frequent replacement of modern electronic devices, this open architecture upgrade hardware is also very convenient.

  This kind of structural consideration does not seem to have any technical content, but if China does not make great progress in related algorithms, chip processors, circuit integration, etc., it is impossible to achieve miniaturization and weight reduction of airborne radar and command systems.
