Yes but I was thinking about fixed wing

And on a second thought I just remembered that photo from Shaanxi showing 8 new KJ-500 from Dec 2017

That means 13 x KJ500 for PLAAF and PLAN

So in fact we are just shy of 30 units

I reckon we are in double figures for KJ-500 AWACS
Good production for these units
We also have 6 x KJ-200 for navy and 6 x KJ-200 for PLAAF
Under going upgrade to KJ-200A and 200B
Plus 4 x KJ-2000
Around 26 x AWACS

Indeed, but may I add a minor correction on the numbers?

The PLAAF operates at least 4 confirmed and the NA also most likely 4 (3 were seen at Lingshui) + alone 8 more at Shaanxi in December 2017 ready for delivery, which would fit to four KJ-500 for each service more.

In sum, both services so have soon 16 KJ-500 operational + the four KJ-2000 and 10-11 KJ-200 (4-5x PLAAF + 6x PLA-NA). PLAAF only 4-5 since one was lost.

Yes I have no idea why I put 6 x KJ200 for PLAAF rather than 5

30171 to 30176 minus 30172 that crashed

Leaving 5, maybe 4 since one is upgraded to KJ200A 30726

KJ200B is new unit? So could be 6 KJ200, KJ200A and KJ200B for PLAAF if it’s not a upgrade

KJ500 if we say 8 in service with 8 ready for delivery yes it’s 16

So now I reevaluate again

11-12 x KJ200
16 x KJ500
4 x KJ2000

total over 30 AWACS maybe 31-32

that's what i meant, sorry. i accidentally wrote one zero too many. so was it plaaf airframe or one of the older, developmental airframes?

That was a prototype airframe being tested by PLAAF

Devastating loss of life on that unit I’m sure that put back Chinese AWACS development by a few years

Lots of operators, experience and knowledge lost luckily they had another prototype to continue development
