Either they're really ramping it up... or there's been a hiccup in deliveries so older planes are still waiting to be delivered.

Either way, we might be looking at over 40 fixed wing awacs platforms by 2025 at this pace. Not counting possible AEW drones. With carrier-capable AEW platforms, even if they're of rotary wing kind, that might rise to 60+ by same year.

They will need it, in any air battle with a near pear, it is all but a matter of who can bring out the biggest and baddest radar to the fight and keeping them alive. And who can bring more of them.

This video tell the travail of KJ2000 development where they have to start from scratch even developing their own radar testing room? Disappointment of contract cancellation by the Israeli and doubt about their own ability to design advanced radar But decision is made to do it themselves
We know now the Chief designer of radome radar Zhang Liang. Young guy fresh out of Phd program
It also tell the development of KJ 500. Wu Manqing is the chief designer
