China invade Vietnamese territory
The dispute on Spratly and Paracel islands in the South East Asia Sea (East Vietnam Sea, or South China Sea) is the hot point that can cause war in Asia.
As American and Russian military powers in South East Asia are reduced, now China has the sole sea-force power in this region. They want to take control these islands, to get the oil from that area. More important, reaching Spratlys allows China to control all sea routes from the West to the East, from the North to the South, because those islands are close to the Strait of Malacca (the main ship passageway between the Indian Ocean and the Pacific Ocean).
And China seems to use army power to take over those islands. China have no evidence of sovereignty at those islands. Paracels are properties of Vietnam, and Spratlys are of several ASEAN countries.
For the moment, China tries to say to the world about its so-called peaceful rise. China is gradually controling South East, then East Asia and challenging the world. China’s military is focused on assuring the capability to compel the South East countries to negotiate a settlement on Beijing’s terms. At the same time, China is laying the foundation for a force able to accomplish broader regional and global objectives.
Analyses of current and projected force structure improvements suggest that in the near term, China is seeking the capacity to hold surface ships at risk through a layered defense that reaches out to the islands extending south from Japan, to and beyond Guam in the western Pacific Ocean, including Spratly and Paracel islands.

When the Chinese ruled of the South China Sea, the world had no Vietnam this country yet, I am sorry to say in history.
