Sorry, I can't understand what you're saying here. Do you mean Type-99's turret is different from the much improved 96G? Or do you mean although 96G is much improved, its turret is still simillar to the older Type-96? Or a bit of both?

Either way, we must all agree that 99's turret is different in same sense from 96G (not totaly though). And 96G's turret is also different from normal 96 in the way of their armers which makes 96G's turret has a different shape as 96 from top view.

It could be old turret, but with additional appliqué armor added to increase protection, as shown here:

    Leopard tank without appliqué armor:

Add on appliqué armor, and it looks like this:

Note the completely different turret shape, due to the additional armor added.

you just need to understand that 96G tank didn't change the turret from old 96type tank. but 98type tank is total new model, include changed new shape turret - 99type tank improved from 98type tank.
also I said 96G didn't change the turret dosn't mean not improved the applique armor.
just like Pointblank showed the pictures, I think he is right.

Take a close look at this pic. It shows clearly China has developed 2 versions of the T-96G.

These 2 tanks like they of the same model (but different accersories) but different from what we have seen. Interesting how the armour is more.....pointed. Seems like deflect incoming shells better.

Most of the references I looked at state that the Type 96 uses some kind of
laminate armour package over the front. I don't know if its supposed to be integral, modular or both. But these pics are the first I've seen of the vehicle
fitted with add-on protection of any kind.

The 99 has a large-ish gap between the 3rd and 4th wheel, the 96 does not.

Phew, look pretty good. And the reactive armor makes it even meaner.

Well, although the older model looks lile T-72 in replica.
