I wish we had a true follow on to the Tom Cat/Phoenix combo for fleet air defense. Sad day that we failed to replace that strong capability IMHO.

USS Coral Sea (CVN 81)

I hope that the USN will one day return to naming carriers after battles or famous ships..

Yes..

The USS Hopper DDG-70 is named after ADM Grace Hopper.



USNS Amelia Earhart named for pilot Amelia Earhart





USNS SACAGAWEA (T-AKE 2) named for Native American explorer Sacagawea





There is no rule/regulation forbidding the naming of an USN ship after a woman.

thanks popeye! yes I should've known about Grace Hopper and all those other incredible women! She was definitely an amazing women especially during a time when the glass ceiling was at it's height.

BZ - "USS Enterprise" is an excellent name (a lot of historical background). I strongly support it although I am not an American and not qualified to sign.
