Well, a search on the news shows there is an

, the leading English language Ukrainian newspaper, and in Interfax that Peru have sounded Ukraine out for an upgrade for their T-55 fleet. Apparently, the deal for the MBT-2000 purchase was nixed due to Ukraine's refusal to allow the Ukrainian diesel engine to be used in the MBT-2000 tank for Peru.

I found a post of similar report on the web though it didn't mention that Ukraine refuses its diesel engine to Peru. When somebody starts a new thread, he needs to provide a backup to his claim and give some comment over the issue. Apparently, Challenge failed to do that and this is not the first time.

I believe this post from a while back best described the rumours of Peru buying the MBT-2000:

All we have confirmation is that the Chinese tank was evaluated and that negotiations are ongoing. To say definitively that Peru is buying Chinese tanks is counting your chickens before they hatch. In fact, 7 months ago, if we applied your logic, we would be saying that Peru was going to buy Polish tanks.

There were more than that though, we actually had pictures of the Chinese tanks in Peru and several people on tanknet and DT confirmed that Peru had chosen the Chinese tanks. However, due to financial constraints (somehow China was selling them for $5.8 million a pop), they abandoned the purchase.

Challenge, on the other hand, routinely posts the worst articles on this forum.

Poland had their PT-91 Twardy showcased in Peru as well, and similar rumours were abound regarding Peru planning to purchase the Polish tank (especially since Peru has a defence cooperation agreement with Poland).
