This will strengthen Iran and Pakistan, as well as China, and is bad news for the terrorists mentioned in post #1058.

An earnest wake up call for India. It is naturally part of the region and others in the region are as welcoming to collaborating with it as India is willing to collaborate with others. The Modi government does seem rather reactive in its foreign policy without a grand strategy, responding when approached but not reaching out.

ANKARA, Turkey — The Turkish Air Force received the last of a batch of F-16 fighter jets which underwent a comprehensive upgrade program.

Speaking at a ceremony here at the corporate headquarters of Tusas Turkish Aerospace Industries (TAI), Turkey's chief procurement official Ismail Demir said the upgrade program substantially boosted Turkey's air combat power.

"We are not dreamers, but we have dreams" Demir said, referring to Turkey's own efforts to design, develop and produce an indigenous fighter jet.

Turkish Air Force Commander Gen. Akin Ozturk said: "The F-16s are the backbone of our force. With the upgrade program, they feature the most advanced technology available. They give our force most efficient operational capabilities."

In 2011, the Turkish and US governments signed a letter of offer and acceptance (LOA) for the $1.1 billion modernization of 117 Turkish Air Force F-16s to a common avionics configuration. December 2006 saw a $635.1 million contract under that framework issued to Lockeed Martin.

The upgrade created a common avionics configuration for the service's fleet of F-16 Block 40 and 50 aircraft. Systems integrated on Turkey's upgraded F-16s include:

• The AN/APG-69(V)9 radar installed on new F-16 Advanced Block 50/52 aircraft

• Color cockpit displays

• The Modular Mission Computer and new avionics processors

• The Joint Helmet-Mounted Cueing System (JHMCS)

• The Link 16 datalink

• New identification-friend-or-foe (IFF) transponders

• AN/AVS-9 night-vision goggles

• Upgraded navigation systems; and BAE Systems' AN/ALQ-178(V)5+ electronic-warfare (EW) system, mounted internally, with radar-warning and jamming capabilities for aircraft self-protection

The aircraft were also modified to accept new missile systems of unspecified types; some potential candidates include the AIM-9X Sidewinder, AIM-120 AMRAAM, and MBDA Meteor.

The deal was conducted under the US Foreign Military Sales (FMS) program, with Lockheed Martin in Fort Worth, Texas, serving as principle contractor, although the actual modification of the aircraft was performed by TAI.

Nice.

With the latest upgrades to systems and weapons, the F-16 is still a very potent and dangerous opponent in the air to any opposition force.

Surprised that nobody seems to have picked up on the Russian resumption of the S300 deal to Iran.
Unsure as to whether to post it in this thread or Russia Military news.
Still very big story and something that changes the dynamics of the Regional balance of power, the end trajectory of the Iranian Nuclear negotiations and of course the entire sanctions regime.

I wonder if this will turn into an AIIB Mk2 with the Russian lead heralding a stampede of the rest of the world away from the sanctions regime, despite the protest of some others.

Vladimir Putin OKs sale to Iran's air defense system S-300. The transaction will be imminent

Fai0te5.jpg

(Defensa.com) Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a decree allowing the export of air defense system long-range S-300 to Iran on Monday. Recall that Russia had to cancel in 2010 the sale to Iran of this advanced defense system due to sanctions imposed by the United Nations. The Kremlin own webpage you can access the decree on the implementation of the United Nations Security Council resolution, which have been included amendments that allow this transaction. After the announcement of this measure, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said the operation with Iran is "imminent".

In recent years, the Russian government has used the possible sale of this system to Iran as leverage in several diplomatic clashes with Western powers. However cancellation supply in 2010 cost the Russian company Rosoboronexport to Iran turned to the Court of Arbitration in Geneva for breach of contract. More recently, in January of this year the Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu visited Iran where agreed with his Iranian counterpart signed a cooperation agreement which included the delivery of S-300.

The origin of this decision Vladimir Putin would be in the preliminary agreement that would have been reached regarding the Iranian nuclear program. The so-called sextet (United States, European Union, Russia, UK, Germany and France) reached an agreement with Iran last April 2 after finding substantial progress on regulation of the Iranian nuclear program. United States is in a difficult situation after this decision because Israel has pressured him to prevent delivery of this provision but after the company announced that the delivery of S-300 would not affect the principle according to which they have come. This is one of the issues discussed in the article "The unbalancing effect of Russian air defense systems last generation," published in the December issue of the journal FDS (Security and Defence Forces).

The ridge on the tank turret is very odd, wonder what purpose it serves.

The future tank deserves a role in the next Mad Max movie, it reminds me of a less armored version of something built on an American reality TV show about a small-time indie arms maker. It is probably just a test bed for the RWS.
I dub thy The RIP-OFF.
the Rip saw on which it looks to be cloned is called the Ripsaw, It's a ultra light weight Thin skinned high speed tracked vehicle With optional weapons.
The Original like the ripoff has almost no real armor
Ripsaw.jpg
Ripsaw has been under development for possible use as a Unmanned ground vehicle.
It's light weight, high speed and small size offers a scout vehicle and potential Airborne transport/ assault platform. Howe and Howe Tech has even developed a Amphibious version.
