Egypt has started receiving its S-300VM - Antey 2500 from Russia.

S-300VM is a variant of S-300 SAM family with operational range of 200km and 250km against Medium Range Ballistic Missiles (MRBMs) and Max altitude of 98k Ft (30k M)

The 9M82M missile is intended to defeat tactical, theater and medium range ballistic missiles, as well as aerodynamic targets at a range of up to 200 km. The Antey-2500 system is mounted on a tracked cross-country vehicle equipped with self-contained power supply and navigation systems, as well as surveying and positioning equipment.

The S-300VM "Antey-2500" missile system was ordered in 2014, as part of a multi-billion Egyptian-Russian arms deal signed later that year. The $1 billion contract comprises one regiment which includes 3 divisions, a command post and other external elements. In 2015, Russia started delivering the system components and the Egyptian soldiers began their training to operate the system in Russian training centers. Before the end of 2016, all system components were delivered to Egypt. Russia is in talks with Egypt on the delivery of additional Antey-2500 systems.

They have to know that this will lead to a bloodbath on their end. At the same time the US has better options to handle the situation than to get sucked directly deeper militarily into this mess. Have the Sunni states and Israel do their dirty work themselves.

Pro-Assad alliance threatens to hit U.S. positions in Syria

A military alliance fighting in support of President Bashar al-Assad said on Wednesday it could hit U.S. positions in Syria, warning that its "self-restraint" over U.S. air strikes on government forces would end if Washington crossed "red lines".

The threat marks an escalation of tensions between the United States and Iran-backed forces over control of Syria's southeastern frontier with Iraq, where the United States has been training Syrian rebels at a base inside Syrian territory.

The United States launched air strikes on Tuesday against what it said were Iranian-backed fighters who it said posed a threat to U.S. and U.S.-backed forces in the area, the second such attack in three weeks.

The statement from the pro-Assad alliance was issued in the name of the "commander of the operations room of the forces allied to Syria", and was circulated by a military news unit run by the Lebanese group Hezbollah, one of Assad's military allies.

Assad's allies also include Iran and Russia. The statement did not spell out whether Moscow was a signatory to it.

"America knows well that the blood of the sons of Syria, the Syrian Arab Army, and its allies is not cheap, and the capacity to strike their positions in Syria, and their surroundings, is available when circumstances will it," the statement said.

It said such attacks could be carried out with "different missile and military systems, in the light of the deployment of American forces in the region".

The statement added that the silence of "the allies of Syria" thus far was not a sign of weakness but "an exercise in self-restraint" to allow for "other solutions".

"This will not last if America goes further, and crosses the red lines," it said.

The U.S. State Department has approved a $662 million U.S. sale of 26 AN/TPQ-53(V) active electronically-scanned array (AESA) counter-battery/weapon-locating radars with KN-4083 anti-spoofing modules, land and sea inertial navigation systems and Defence Advanced Global Positioning System (GPS) receivers.

states that the deal also includes more than 2000 training rounds, i.e. 840 M931 120mm mortar projectiles with M781 fuzes and 2,240 M107 155mm artillery projectiles with M557 fuzes; Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio Systems; FMTV M1092 5-ton tucks; and requisite logistics, maintenance and training support equipment and contractors.

The DSCA states that the sale would enable Saudi Arabia to “support its border security requirements and modernize its armed forces with a more current capability to locate and counter the source of incoming ballistic artillery, rockets, and mortars.”

Notes & Comments:

The Q-53 Counterfire Target Acquisition Radar (CTAR) enables the end-user to identify and track incoming rocket, artillery and mortar (RAM) fire. Once detected, the CTAR’s information can be passed to friendly firing units, such as artillery or armour, to provide accurate return fire.

The Q-53 can provide 360° and 90° coverage (the latter providing increased search range). As an AESA radar, the Q-53 also boasts a high level of defensibility against opposing electronic warfare (EW) jamming.

the Q-53’s ability to detect and track low-flying aircraft, specifically unmanned aerial vehicles, positioning the Q-53 as a multi-mission radar capable of providing fire control support to artillery and armour as well as short-range air defence systems.

The U.S. Army has 95 Q-53s (of an initial 100 order) in service, and in March 2017, it placed a $1.6 billion indefinite-delivery and indefinite-quantity for additional systems and support packages.

Egypt’s Defence Ministry will get 46 Ka-52 Alligator combat helicopters in 2017-2019.

In September 2016, Egypt and Russia signed a training agreement, which will see Egyptian pilots train for the Ka-52 in Russia.

The Ka-52 is equipped with four hardpoints under its wings, which can take on laser-guided anti-tank missiles, rockets, air-to-air missiles, and laser-guided bombs. Powered by two VK-2500 turboshaft engines, the Ka-52K has a cruising speed of 260 km/h and a maximum speed of 300 km/h. The Alligator has an operational range of 460 km and ferry range of 1,100 km.
