UAE confirms order Rabdan new 8×8 armoured vehicles with Russian-produced combat turret

The United Arab Emirates military announced during the IDEX 2017 defence show in Abu Dhabi that it had ordered 400 Rabdan 8×8 armored wheeled vehicles fitted with Russian BMP-3 combat turret.

The Rabdan is a wheeled vehicle developed by Al Jasoor, a joint venture company between Tawazun and Otokar UAE, which is a subsidiary of Otokar. The infantry fighting vehicle is to be built in manufacturing facilities at the Tawazun Industrial Park in Abu Dhabi.

The Rabdan development of the Otokar Arma 8×8 fitted with the turret with 100mm 2A70 gun and two coaxial weapons, namely, 30mm 2A72 automatic cannon and 7,62mm PKT/PKTM machingun from Russian produced BMP-3 amphibious infantry fighting vehicles. The UAE is the largest international operator of BMP-3 vehicles. Between 1992 and 2000 about 600 BMP-3 were delivered.

The installation of the BMP-3 combat module on the optional Rabdan vehicles would increase the level of the UAE`s infantry armoured vehicles fleet unification and replaces of ageing BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles.

Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa, who is on an official visit to Qatar met Prime Minister of Qatar, Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al Thani, Commander Qatar Emiri Land Forces, Major General Muhammed Ali Ghanim Al Ghanim and Commander Qatar Emiri Guard, Major General Hazza Bin Khalil Al Shahwani. The Prime Minister acknowledged Pakistan's contributions towards development and growth of Qatar. He also hailed Pakistan Army's contributions towards regional peace. He said that people of Qatar greatly value people of Pakistan and trust their time tested commitment for working in Qatar. He expressed his desire to learn from Pakistan Army's experience in security domain and also seeking assistance during forthcoming Football World Cup in Qatar including provision of manpower.
The Prime Minister also shared his desire to move forward with Pakistan on multiple fronts including cyber security, defence production and ease of travel. COAS thanked the Prime Minister for his expression and assured him all possible cooperation in the desired fields.
During his meeting with Major General Muhammed Ali Ghanim Al Ghanim, Commander Qatar Emiri Land Forces, the host appreciated Pakistan Army's professionalism and performance in ongoing fight against terrorism. He showed his interest for joint training and field exercises. COAS thanked the General while also assuring him to work for undertaking training cooperation. COAS also visited the Qatar Emiri Guard Headquarters and met Major General Hazza Bin khalid Al Shahwani. COAS visited Ahmed Bin Mohamed Military College where Pakistani tri services contingent of 166 members is imparting training.
