Iraqi F-16 force at Balad now ten-strong

Iraq is gaining an increasingly potent F-16 force at Balad airbase near Baghdad. The number of F-16s jets available for the fighter against so-called Islamic State (IS) has grown to ten after this week’s delivery of four more jets.

The Iraqi Air Force has 36 F-16s on order from Lockheed Martin. A number of aircraft remains stationed in the US for pilot training in Tucson, Arizona, while most of the jets will head to Iraq to join the Iraq Air Force’s 9 squadron at Balad. From there, the Iraqi F-16 have already been used in battling IS.

Meanwhile, the Iraqi Air Force also gains more and more Aero Vodochody L-159 trainer and light attack jets from the Czech Republic. Furthermore, the first Korea Aerospace Industries (KAI) T-50 Golden Eagle should soon also find its way to Iraq.

A true independent Military Service in 2012, 40000 pers. about 800 launchers !

They have as North Korea much SAM but a big majority old still but less than North Korea and have receive these last years a certain number of new Russians SAM but no S-300

But since 2012 presumably a big part lost.

Kuwait orders 30 H225M Caracal helicopters

Airbus Helicopters has secured a vital vote of confidence in its troubled H225, with an order from Kuwait for 30 examples of the military variant.
To be operated by the country's air force and a new aviation unit of the national guard, the H225M fleet will be used for a wide variety of missions including combat search and rescue, naval operations and medical evacuation.
No details have been released on delivery timings or the value of the contract, which also includes a support and services package.
In June last year Kuwait signalled its intention to acquire as many as 24 Caracals. It currently operates a fleet of 11 older SA330 Puma and AS332 Super Puma variants, Flight Fleets Analyzer data shows, as well as 14 SA342 Gazelles which have an average age of more than 40 years.
As well as helping to bolster Airbus Helicopters’ depleted backlog for the type, the commitment from the Middle Eastern state is a rare piece of good news for the programme.
All civil Super Puma flights were grounded following a fatal crash in Norway in late April on concerns over the 11t-class helicopter’s gearbox.
Although the H225M was not affected by the ruling, new sales have been in limbo, with prospective military orders from Singapore, and to a lesser extent Poland, seemingly stalled because of the civil flight ban.
Rival manufacturer Leonardo recently expressed confidence that it could secure orders from those nations, based on the problems being suffered by the H225.

A new Fleet Tanker for the Pakistan Navy (PN) was launched today by Karachi Shipyard & Engineering Works Limited (KS&EW) in Karachi. Construction of the vessel was started on 27 November 2013 with steel cutting and subsequently keel laying was performed on 7 March 2014. The design of the Fleet Tanker is from Turkey's STM, while the tanker itself was built in Pakistan.

The imposing gray building of 199 m will leave the dock Penhoët Friday. The Anwar El Sadat begin sea trials "as part of a training session on maintenance engineering," DCNS said.

On board the helicopter carrier will pick some 180 men forming the crew, currently training in Saint-Nazaire. This is the first output of the helicopter carrier in the colors of the Egyptian Navy.

It will be interesting to see exactly how the Egyptians use their Mistrals.

Do they really have Amphibious assault needs?

Might they try and embark attack helos and maybe even got old US Harries for them?

Who knows.

The Turks re definitely going to have at least one, and maybe two such vessels, and they are making no secret about wanting to acquiring F-35Bs for them.

interesting.

Iran's claims that “new” Karrar Tank: "One of the Most Advanced Tanks in the World"?

QqI1rTW.jpg

Could this just be a T-72’s chassis with the T-80’s turret.

In April, Iran revealed a new tank named the Tiam. But it’s not really new. The Tiam’s chassis is from an M47 — a 1950s design supplied by the United States during the reign of the Shah — and the turret is from a Chinese Type 59/69.

Another Iranian design, the Zulfiqar, is likely a jumbled-together combination of parts from the M48, M60 and T-72; the latter which comprise the bulk of Iran’s tank force. Iran has even dressed up some of its Zulfiqars to resemble the US Abrams tank.
