what's it's detection range for 1 m^2 targets?

Radar range against a 'fighter-sized target' is put at 330 km, but there are many variables to take into account, anyone has anything more specific?

yeah, but fighter-sized target is defined differently in different countries. In Russia, it's 5 m^2, in China, it's 3 m^2, in US, it's 1 m^2. There are also different detection range specs. up, down, frontal, behind.

the russians use the 5m62 partially cause they have big planes like su-27, and partially cause they wan their radars to look good. american radars dont need exagerration to perform well.

Do you have any source on the sizes? It's kind of hard to belive that the Russian planes would have a 65% larger RCS than their Chinese counterparts, that flies more or less the same aircrafts.

Check any of the Russian sites. I posted plenty of pictures by Russian manufacturers that showed their ranges are against 5 m^2 targets (su-27). China is against 3m^2 targets(mig-21/J-7). Actuall, the RCS of su-27 is more like 10 m^2 to 25 m^2. That thing is huge like F-15.

the su-27s chinese counterpart is the j-11.
and guess what? ther'e the same plane!!!

Pakistan is getting the turboprop version, the ones used by Sweden, not the EMBs. It'd be nice to have the jets, too though.
