Re: China Got A New Ship For Pakistan

The Type 730 might be too big, but an AK630 or two would fit fine.

They would not leave the rear deck empty, my guess is that they will put two patrol boats on the aft open deck to facilitate boarding of smaller ships or scouting.

As for the 022, well the boats by themselves are rather useless. The tiny radars they do carry are nowhere near powerful enough for them to use their missiles. If Pakistan buys the Type 022, they would need to also purchase all the support and off-board targeting assets that allow those boats to function in their intended role.

I do not expect that to come cheap, and getting enough 022s to use them the way the boats were designed is not going to be cheap either.
And you think that this boat has these powerful radar to use those missiles?
Why don't you take a look at the pictures and point on what these mysterious sensors are?

Where's the sonar dome or bulge on this ship? Don't want the same thing happen to it like the Cheonnan (South Korean naval ship sunk by the DPRK). Does anyone has pics on that shows the bottom of the hull?
The point is you build these things with low radar and infrared signature so they are hard to detect from above with all the wave clutters. And then you all design it so that it has reduced acoustic signature, so that submarines would have a hard time picking it up too. Why would it need a sonar dome?

Say, if China is building these for Pakistan, that means at some point the Chinese have shown off models of them at those trade exhibitions, right? Could anyone able to dig something up?
yep, I think they are selling something similar to Bangladesh. Also, they are offering a 1500 ton corvette for export I think.

i hope we will see new pictures of this FAC-M with its weaponry soon

Since no progress has been reported over the possible purchase of 4 MİLGEM class corvette from Turkey China may steal that order too

I think this ship is equipped with ASW rockets? Without sonar, it'd be difficult to direct the attack. Maybe it has hull-mounted sonar?

for years Turkey and Pakistan have been developing Milgem project but looks like Pakistan has dropped all assosication with that project

in recent months and years Pakistan has dropped every foreign military order even ones that were signed, Erieye and F16 C/D Block 52+ and turned to China for solutions, and they not only get the solutions they get them in breakneck speed, we are talking months not years, whereas foreign orders take forever

Speed, Capability and Price, there is no competition with China, who supplied 3 F22P frigates inside few years, no other country can do that not even US, it took them 5 years to upgrade and overhaul USS McInerney Oliver Hazard Perry class frigate to Pakistan you can work out the rest

historicaly Pakistan has always relied on the qaulity advantage over India, that is something we cant compromise cus we are 7 times smaller in size and 8 times in population, and Pakistan has evaluated many many Western systems, so that says alot about the Chinese systems, they either match or exceed Western systems

this is great cus it makes integration much easier cus they are all from one supplier and we get ToT

The only problem for China is its lack of aggressive marketing and unwillingness to release more info of its export military technology to public to boast sales. They need to make their export item specification and progress more easily accessible in open net. Swinging the opinion of general public is also critical in making your product more attractive.

Could the non aggressive marketing be a result of China not needing the business and could keep it's own ship yards busy with PLAN orders and domestic ships?

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Navy has become the first maritime force in the region that is equipped with stealth technology after its first Fast Attack Craft (FAC) equipped with missiles was launched on Tuesday. India also launched its FAC on the same day in Kochi.

“The version Pakistan has bought has far better qualities and added features including cost efficiency and multi-role in any combat activity,” said an insider. “The inclusion of the FAC-M in Pakistan navy will enhance its capacity to fight against terrorism and extremism.”1 p0 V7 t4 Q) k# T

According to the Pakistan Navy, the FAC-M, designated as PNS Azmat was launched at Tianjin (Xingang Chinese Shipyard) in an impressive ceremony where Pakistan’s Chief of Naval Staff (CNS) Admiral Noman Bashir was the chief guest. The vessel will be the first of the Azmat class FAC, scheduled to be delivered to the Pakistan Navy within six months.

The missile craft construction project represents a quantum leap, not only in defence production in the maritime sector of Pakistan, but also addresses a long-standing operational requirement of the Navy. The fast attack craft is equipped with advanced weaponry and sensors, including the C802A surface-to-surface missile, and has stealth features. The FAC in question has a crew of 12 to 14 sailors, less than half that of similar craft. At a unit cost of an estimated $50 million each, a Navy with limited resources could afford both the financial and manpower commitment.

Admiral Noman Bashir, who has brought several innovations in Pakistan, addressed the ceremony marking the launching of FAC-M. Acknowledging the efforts of Chinese engineers and technicians for the construction of FAC-M, the chief guest felicitated the China State Shipbuilding Company (CSOC), Xingang Shipyard for their full cooperation and commitment in launching the craft as per schedule and remarked that this was yet another example of the unique and unparallel relations between the two countries.6 K7 \' }/ p& U+ ~" r- A7 J

The Indian media has reported that India added a new warship to its fleet with the commissioning of FAC in Kochi to aid in anti-piracy operations in the Arabian Sea. It has been named after an island in the Andaman and Nicobar archipelago as Kabra.

Vice Admiral Sushil underscored the importance of relatively smaller ships like fast attack craft for a blue water navy, saying the assets were an essential inventory in peacetime for low intensity conflicts and anti-piracy operations. - t5 s' Z& y' z- R9 \

It is the eighth of a series built with borrowed technology. The main armament of the ship is a 30mm CRN 91 gun. In addition, the ship has been fitted with machineguns of various types and shoulder launched surface-to-air missiles. INS Kabra has a three-officer and 39-sailor crew.

Wow, made in China is CHEAP. A lot of expensive yachts that are only 90 tons have costs in the same range.

Well the Indian FAC mentioned is only 11.2 million, so I'm not sure if 50 Million is considered cheap in that part of the world.

actually $50 million isnt too bad, 4 F22P frigates were $750 million, which is $190 million per ship, easily you can pay $ 3-400 million for a frigates from a Western country, Saudi paid over $1 billion for 3 La Fayette class frigates

in terms of price I dont think PN can do better than a Chinese ship, also in time of war PN can quickly repair any damaged ship and get it back into the fight, Pakistan has seen US policy, which is sell weapons then put on sanctions when war breaks out, your left helpless, so little extra for a more reliable system is worth the money

btw i dont think that Indian FAC is $11.2 million?
