Pakistan will be launching a PakTES-1A, a remote sensing satellite (RSS) in July this year, Foreign Office spokesperson Dr Muhammad Faisal said in a post on social media on Sunday.

According to Dr Faisal, PakTES-1A, which is an indigenously developed satellite, weighs 285kg and will be launched at 610km sun-synchronous orbit next month.

Earlier this year, Beijing had announced it would launch two remote sensing satellites for Pakistan.

) worked jointly on the satellites. The satellites will be used for geo-monitoring and taking images from the orbit.

In 2016, China and Pakistan had signed an agreement to launch a special remote sensing satellite. The main reason for signing the agreement was to monitor the development of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (

) projects.

Currently, three satellites are under design by SUPARCO in collaboration with different universities throughout China

roughly 20 million tonnes of solid waste is generated annually, with annual growth rate of about 2.4 percent.

The National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) has accepted an application of the Lahore Xingzhong Renewable Energy Company (pvt) Limited for its 40 megawatt (MW) waste to energy project.

Earlier the company had filed an application with Nepra for seeking a generation license for the 40 MW Municipal Solid waste (MSW) power project to be constructed at Lakhodair Lahore.

The project shall have an installed capacity of 40MW with 2 turbine generators of 20MW capacity while the total cost of the proposed project is $220 million.

The company has applied for the upfront tariff simultaneously with the generation license.

The project is expected to start commercial operation by the end of year 2022 and the electricity generated from this project would be fed to the national grid of Lesco (Lahore Electricity Supply Company) 132/11 kV Mominpura.

Three Chinese companies including China ENFI Engineering Corporation, MCC Tongsin Resources Co. Ltd and Chengdu Xingrong Environemt Co.Ltd have established a new Special Purpose Vehicle (SPV) Company named Lahore Xingzhong Renewable Energy (pvt) limited jointly to undertake the proposed project of Punjab government.

The SPV Company will be responsible for investment, construction, operation and transfer of waste to energy project.

It is pertinent to mention here, that underground water will be used for production at the plant while domestic purpose of the water consumption during construction phase would be 1320.86 gallons per day.

During the operational phase, it would be 418712.70 gallons/day consumption of process water and 5547.61 gallons/day consumption of portable water.

Solid waste management situation in Pakistan is a matter of grave concern as more than 5 million people die each year due to waste related diseases.

In Pakistan roughly 20 million tones of solid waste is generated annually, with annual growth rate of about 2.4 percent.

The population of Lahore is about 11 million and more than 6000 tones of waste are generated on daily basis.

Currently, Lahore Waste Management Company is performing municipal solid waste (MSW) management role in Lahore.

At present, only one sanitary landfill site has been established in Lahore named as Lakhodair Sanitary landfill, managing 2000-25000 tons of waste on daily basis.

A MSW collection and transportation system has been established in Lahore operated by two Turkish companies.

Lakhodair Landfill site is fully operational in the northeast of Lahore and covering an area of 52.9 hectare meanwhile a new landfill of 63 hectare is planned in the southwest of the city with a capacity of 2500 tones per day.

A waste to energy plant does not require extensive land, it basically involves the utilization of solid waste to recover energy that can be in the form of electricity fuel or any other byproducts.

The technology reduces the volume of the solid waste and hence conserves a huge chunk of landfill spaces so it allows the recovery of many useful products from waste material

company to establish solid waste power plant...

A subsidiary of Chengdu Xingrong Environmental Co, Lahore Xingzhong Renewable Energy has expressed interest in establishing a municipal solid waste power plant at a projected cost of $140 million

KARACHI: A Chinese company has applied for a generation licence from the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (Nepra) to establish a municipal solid waste power plant.

A subsidiary of Chengdu Xingrong Environmental Co, Lahore Xingzhong Renewable Energy has expressed interest in establishing a municipal solid waste power plant at a projected cost of $140 million, reported The News.

The plant is expected to come online by end of April 2020 and Nepra in January introduced levelized tariff of $0.10 per kilowatt- hour for municipal solid waste power plants for a duration of twenty-five years.

The total production capacity for these solid waste power plants has been restricted at 250MW across Pakistan.

For every province and federal territory, the share of each would be 50MW.

Nepra’s tariff determination was established on the project cost of $3.5 million per megawatt, taking into consideration available reference prices in the region.

Across the country, over 20 million tons of municipal solid waste is generated with 2.4 percent yearly growth.

Pakistan’s major urban cities Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Quetta and Peshawar are confronting major challenges in addressing issues of urban waste.

On an annual basis, thousands perish because of waste-related diseases.

Due to environmental problems, most countries in the region have introduced a tariff for municipal waste power plants and are getting dual advantages by the generation of electricity via the garbage and its disposal.

Chengdu Xingrong Environment Co., Ltd. primarily produces and sells water in China. It extracts, purifies, transports, and sells water through water pipeline network.

It also provides municipal sewage, household wastewater and sludge, and garbage leachate treatment services; and reclaimed water services.

in generating 5,204 megawatts of electricity by setting up hundreds of micro-hydroelectric power plants in off-grid areas of Khyber-Pakthunkhwa (K-P) and 2,330MW solar capacity in Punjab by 2026 under its “Access to Clean Energy Investment Program”.

“By 2026, the project would have supported the construction of micro-hydroelectric power plants totaling 5,204MW and the installation of solar facilities in schools (of which 30% will be girls’ schools) and primary health care facilities (including 500 used by women), totalling 42MW in K-P and 2,330MW in Punjab,” said a report launched by the ADB.
