I wonder what did the twitter post mean by "launch". Is it the first ground test on a rig? Or a take-off of a test aircraft (flanker, PAKFA etc.) mounted with the new engine? Another possibility is engine in the air by mounting on a test-bed aircraft, though that is essentially in the same league as a ground test.

Good question, although flying the engine on a test bed aircraft is far more helpful than any ground test could be, by replicating actual airflows within a "cowling", cooling and airflows and pressures are far more accurate.

I was thinking of the development stage of this engine. So far what I know of engine development test goes such:
firing and running core on rig -> whole engine (with fan and afterburner) on rig -> high altitude test bed aircraft -> target aircraft or similar jets.

My intension is to compare with the progress of WS-15, in a broader sense to get a feeling of where the two countries jet industries are.

The first launch of the "30 Articles" on the stand

According to the press service of the United Engine Corporation (UEC), the stand Lytkarino Machine-Building Plant in Moscow on November 11 of this year, the first ground-start the engine demonstrator, designed for installation on the fighter T-50. In addition to the engine demonstrator were separately manufactured gasifiers new engine test on the stand. According to a press release from the JDC, the first test switch demonstrator engine successfully. Development "Articles 30" leads OKB. A.M.Lyulki, which is the Moscow branch of PJSC "Ufa Machine-Building Production Association (UMPO)." The lead manufacturer serial "engines of the second stage of the" T-50 defined UMPO. It should be clarified that the promising domestic engine "product 30" is designed to be installed not only on the machine T-50, but other military aircraft.
According to the chief designer - Director engine-OKB. A.M.Lyulki Eugene Marchukova, in their characteristics "Item 30" will exceed the set is now on the T-50 engine "Article 117" (AL-41F1) by 15-20%. Features of the power plant increased due to a sharp improvement in the operating cycle parameters efficiency units, new construction materials is significantly reduced specific fuel consumption (not only in cruising mode but also in the afterburner mode), and others.
According to the developers, the number of components in the high-pressure compressor (HPC) "Articles 30" reduced by almost half compared to the previous generation engine compressor (AL-41F1), while providing a significant increase in work at one stage. The cost of manufacturing such a compressor will not exceed the production of the fourth generation of HPC cost of the engine (the AL-41F1) subject to the application of new materials and technologies. The new engine for the T-50 (Sukhoi PAK FA - PAK FA) used composite materials, which are built not only on the polymer matrix of the cold, as well as parts that are created from high-compositions.
According to Eugene Marchukova, the first flight of the T-50 with the "engine of the second stage" will be held either in late 2017 or early 2018, with machine T-50 will be used as a flying laboratory. The tests will be held in Zhukovsky.

good post b787, and from a fairly "substantive source", with very specific details, and a much higher quality translation, so a lighter, simpler, more robust hot section, where we will see 15-20% improved thrust and efficiencies over the 117 for the article 30 engine. NOW THIS is a much more believable source than we normally see, and this will give the -2 much improved performance and fuel economy!

just a reminder to all, keep Jeff Head in your prayers! Please, and Thank-you, these are very difficult days for Jeff and his family! his fight with cancer is very, very difficult, the type of cancer Jeff has is very painful, bone pain is one of the most difficult aspects of pain management.
