Other Chinese 5th generation concepts ... not J-20 or FC-31

Interesting tweet by @10969YUKIKAZE in a conversation with @mssn65, another Japanese PLA watcher. These tweeters appear to follow Weibo and other Chinese social media. Conversation is about would be proposals for China's next generation fighter being developed back earlier after the turn of the century.

Seven separate types of stealth aircraft were developed?! I think there may be some translation errors. Perhaps 5 others that were on the drawing board and rejected in by their developers before prototyping. Or they mean prototypes and pre-production models.

I'm leaning towards 7 concepts (finely detailed drawings or a model). There's no way they would spend the money on prototypes.

How reliable is this Yukikaze guy and where are the Weibo and social media posts that his posts infer from?

Number #3. Shenyang “Yuken” (the black one in the image) is bigger/longer than the J-20. Certainly looks more maneuverable than the J-20 but less stealthy than it.

Shenyang had a triplane 5th gen... maybe never made it to full flying prototype but some of the earliest J-xx renderings showed something similar to this triplane fighter. No doubt this heavy weight lost out to CAC's J-20 eventually.

Not sure if he is a he or a she. I'm not sure if he or she is Japanese or Chinese. There are a bunch of Japanese PLA bloggers and observers in Twitter in close contact with each other, and they appear to write both fluent Chinese and Japanese. Their stream of tweets can go from one language to another. Its hard to say if they're Japanese who knows Chinese much or a Chinese who knows Japanese much. But one thing for sure is that they are looking at Chinese social media, probably have their own accounts there, and then transmitting whatever they find like pictures, or various pieces of what they read, out into Twitter. They don't attribute however who they get it from Weibo and so on. In addition to all this, there appears to be some Japanese BBS or forum that talks about PLA related matters, like a Japanese language SDF. see

I don't take things directly on their word, but put it into my bag of consideration and further observation to see if further events would verify them or if they are consistent with future results.

I wouldn't hold my breath. The "J-35" or whatever it's called will probably show up sooner or later but likely won't be related to this guy's tweets.

Due to the ongoing discussion in the FC-31 thread I separated the non-FC-31-related posts.

Before the j20 there was the stealthy enlarged J10 concept. Single engine version of j20 based on J10 design from 611.

There was also the double engine J10 stealth version that morphed in j20 from 611.

Both of these are like year 2000.
