There's a big thread going on right now at mp.net about the reported death of OBL. The US claims to have his corpse. Al Jazeera is reporting OBL is dead.

US president Barack Obama is due to make a statement shortly in which he is expected to announce the death of Osama bin Laden, the leader of al-Qaeda.

Obama's address was due at 0300GMT from the White House.

Qais Azimy, Al Jazeera's correspondent in Kabul, said that Afghan officials have confirmed that Bin Laden had died and that his body was with the United States.

Officials would not confirm whether he had been killed in Afghanistan or Pakistan, and said that the death of the al-Qaeda leader was more of a "symbolic victory", as he was no longer directly connected to the group's field operations, Azimy reported.

Wow! Big celebrations especially for Obama politics.

I wonder if all this talk about Pakistan trying to manuever Afghanistan has something to do with this. Most likely it's going to mean the US is not going to spend as much money in the region anymore and they don't want a repeat of what happened after the Russian/Afghan War.

Trump can't trump this one. I wonder how they're going to spin this one.

Well now.. We've been watching the ABC news and they are insinuating that US troops may have crossed into Pakistan to conduct this mission.

In Afghanistan the biggest problem is Taliban, not AQ. Let's see if things would unravel for them following this news.

Maybe not because there has always been rumblings of negotiations with the Taliban. Now since Bin Laden is dead that might change.

Or Delta force. Or a mix of CIA Special Activities Division and Delta Force. I can't wait to find out the details of the operation.
