The article says the new aerotransport will be "finalized and handover(近期定型并将交付部队)" to PLA soon.

I am indeed surprised by the news. But its quite logical that Chinese had already successfully developped an even more advanced aerotransport the "Yun-10" in 1980s. But the project was dropped by Deng Xiaoping. Such decision was considered as one of the worst failure in Chinese defence history.

Since Hu become the president, he proposed to relanuched that project and just few days ago I read a news from Xinhua news agent (the CCP's own news agent) that the "demostration phase of a large aerotransport has been conducted".

I think PLA still have the "Yun-10" design somewhere, they claimed the "Yun-10" as one of the most advanced aerotransport in 1980 era.

larger doesn't really mean more advanced. Y-9 should be far more advanced in terms of reliability, maintenance, avionics, material used, fuel efficiency, range and such than Y-10.

anyhow, this is what I was trying to find.

China's Shaanxi Aircraft has delayed until next year the first flight of its Y-9 transport, which boasts several improvements over its current Y-8 turboprop. The Y-8 is heavily based on the Soviet-era Antonov An-12 Cub.

"Originally we planned to have the first flight by the end of this year, but now we are making some small changes so the first flight has been delayed," says a company source.

Shaanxi says the stretched Y-9 will have new avionics, Chinese-built Wojiang WJ-6 engines, a 20t payload and a range of up to 5,800km (3,130nm).
from huitong's site for range:
"Some specifications: max TO weight 65t, max payload 20t or 106 paratroopers, 15t payload range 2,200km, max level speed 650km/h, cruise speed 550km/h, service ceiling 10,100m, cruise altitude 8,000m"

comparing this to C-130:
