The article says that the new aerotransport is comparable to American C-103.

I am still not so sure. But there is indeed a message from Chinese media that they have successfully tested a new airplane early this month. Most of us believe it is "H-6K", but it seems we were wrong. Because in that message it said that there are non-military officals(local government officer) attended the test which means the new airplane is may be for commercial use.

Chinese also cancelled to import Russian "Tu-22" last year.

yeah, the thing is that this plane is not even in service yet, in fact, hasn't even flied yet. It's hard to compare it to something proven like C-130J. However, even if it's not the best transport platform, it could be quite useful in its roles as the platform to use for the different EW roles like AEW, ECM, Elint and such. Maybe, they will even use it as oil tanker instead of H-6U in the future.

No prototype has flown yet?..Jeez..I'm disapointed. And at the same time not surprised. As far as any news comming from the PLA about new equipmnet and technology we have to maintain a wait and see attidude. otherwise we will be disapointed.

The article says the new aerotransport will be "finalized and handover(近期定型并将交付部队)" to PLA soon.

I am indeed surprised by the news. But its quite logical that Chinese had already successfully developped an even more advanced aerotransport the "Yun-10" in 1980s. But the project was dropped by Deng Xiaoping. Such decision was considered as one of the worst failure in Chinese defence history.

Since Hu become the president, he proposed to relanuched that project and just few days ago I read a news from Xinhua news agent (the CCP's own news agent) that the "demostration phase of a large aerotransport has been conducted".

I think PLA still have the "Yun-10" design somewhere, they claimed the "Yun-10" as one of the most advanced aerotransport in 1980 era.

That's not surprising, considering in the 70s I think China managed to build a working prototype of a B707 type jet airliner. I guess China decided the vast resources needed to make these large air transport commercially viable could be better used elsewhere. One has to remember most of Deng's era was in the honeymoon period with US, so there was much less need for large defence spendings & of course, the resources available then were much less than what they have today.

.....Yep, I've already spotted it, I was looking for something AN-70ish, but this seems like a baby AN-70. I doubt I'll find something comparable though. That AN-70 will put down a 20 ton cargo on a 600 meter strip on it's "Max STOL" configuration. And transport much larger loads on regular runways, up to 60 tons! That's hard to beat performance......
