Going back at least 4 years, there does not appear to be a thread on Unmanned Surface Vehicle (USV) development. Given recent comments about ongoing programs in the US Navy in a thread not related to USVs, I thought a thread dedicated to the USVs would be a good idea for education and to prevent thread drift elsewhere.

There are two USV programs currently, that I am aware of, for the US Navy.

The first one is the Common Unmanned Surface Vehicle made by Textron. It is being developed by the USN for mine hunting and for surface warfare. This program stretches at least as far back as 2012.

The second system being developed is the Sea Hunter. It was made by DARPA originally and has been handed over as a demo system for the US Navy:

A Sea Hunter is being used in exercises pretty much now.
