Taking your sniper anology, it would be like going into a sniping competition with a rifle you never used before. Your daily training isn't going to count for much if the gun you use behaves vastly differently to what you were training with.

Besides, if China wanted to win at all costs, it would have sent 99s or the new 99Bs, which would have given them a near insurmountable advantage.

Nope you're wrong. A sniper with even a broken rifle may still win or at least placed high because just like a tank competition, a sniper competition is not all about LR shooting.

There are graded on multiple categories like evasion, stealth, intelligence gathering to name just a few... heck in most cases you don't even need a rifle for that! But training is everything.

beside that the Tank crews or sniper should still be given time to familiarize themselves with the individual equipment in question. IE range time, Inspection. you can't just hand someone something and tell them "go!" It might be a brief familiarization period but then again in time of war they would not get that long either. and as to being inferior to what the Russians are using, True to a point. First the Russian army is not all sitting in the same Tank versions they have a real mix of brand new stuff and really old stuff, second those crews are more likely to be familiar and trained up for the older models.

Are you sure about that? It would be very strange if the nations would agree to this if they knew that they would be competing with an inferior tank. They use the T-72, they know it. As for ztz-99b i got the impression that there are rules about weight in the biathlon. Im not sure if china would be allowed to bring ztz-99b to the contest. Of course, its debatable if china would want to send it at all.

Isn't T-72B3 a newer tank with better propulsion and same fire control system as T-90. The only disadvantage is probably armor and ADS which neither of them is a factor in the game.

T-72B3 have an engine of 840 hp vs for more old 780, Kontakt-5 explosive reactive armor with also a better electronic etc... exist also a T-72B3M or T-72B4 1130 hp, Relikt explosive reactive armor, possible more capable shells, first in service this year and very close of the T-90
