the thing is JF-17 04 was already shown on CCTV when Musharraf came to visit CAC. And really, JF-17 can never be called a classified project for pla, since JDW was able to get all of the information on it.

Agreed !!! .... the biggest problem for me is, that during the whole April from Friday on I'm in Austria with my family for the Eastern-holiday ... and then one week later I have to companion my class from school for their last "tour" ... so I will miss everything until 1st. May !!! :(

Hope You all here will keep me informed when I'm back again ! :D

Cheers, Deino

Well it reading the 'Jang news' article, it is certainly a development for the good for the Chinese as much as it is for Pakistanis.

If true, J-10 is already on its way for export to PAF but what I would be interested to find out is, would the Chinese avionics be retained or a western suite integrated? Which French avionics suite are J-10's based on?

Well since the J-10 seems to ready for export soon, it says something about Chinese engines being ready. I don't think Russia would allow their enigines on board J-10s just like they won't allow them on the FC-1 for Pakistan.

Thats what i thought at first, but it appears the russians only announced to block of the rd-93 to appease India. Theres no sign of them holding to their word at all.

If you think about it, its not that absurd the russians were to do such a thing. Suppose all pakistania j-10s were to use al-31. Increased demand by pak for the fighter would mean more al-31s needed from russia, boosting sales.

It would seem China has progressed very far in engine technology because the PAF does not seem worried about the JF-17's engine either; however I think the RD-93 deal is still going through.

If you guys look at the same article you'll notice Russia is kind of willing to sell it's stuff to Pakistan (prolly if India decides for Western tech). So i don't think Russian will like to make few quick bucks out of a deal involving Pakistan and China .

I don't think the problem is the Russians, but rather China. China would not export J-10 unless it's engine is ready. And the truth is that WS-10 is ready or at least will be once the delivery starts. As for avionics, the rest of the details haven't come out yet. Again, I'd think it's a matter of how much Pakistan is willing to pay. The more the better

Sounds like someone trying to take advantage.

The mechanism of financing is already in place between the two countries. Moreover, a purchase by Pakistan will help in reducing the price of J-10s for China too. There will be more purchases after the purchase of 2 squadrons. Thankfully, Chinese Government is quite aware of the advantages the sale will bring to China too. That was one of the reason, China offered to show the J-10s to Musharraf.

What the Russians sell to the Pakistanis is going to be limited simply because of India. So you're probably not going to see Pakistani Su-30 MKIs anytime soon. It's a pretty sure bet that the Chinese waited until their engines were ready for production which probably forced the door open for Pakistani access to Russian arms which gives them some leverage over Pakistan for their ally India.

no, it's simple business.

The 2 squadron purchase wouldn't lower the cost of J-10 at all. If China is ordering 1200 J-10s and Pakistan is getting 2 squadrons, is that going to make a difference? In fact, China would have to make modifications to satisfy PAF, so those J-10s would cost more.

China showed J-10 to Musharraf, because it felt like it was close to getting a deal. If China is actually trying to export J-10, it would be actively marketting this thing. I'm surprised China would even export J-10 this early.
