New airbase construction

There has been plenty of news on new flying projects but what about China's airbases? Is China doing to its airbases what it's doing to its civil airports, which is a massive expansion? Is it consolidating airbases or building any new ones? If so, where?

Also, how often does the PLAAF share civilian airports? For example, do Shanghai Pudong and Beijing Capital airports have sections for the military?

I have never seen PLAAF planes at Beijing airport. Although I am sure they can use there if they wanted to, I would imagine that Beijing would not like PLAAF planes to regularly use busy international airports as that projects a bad image for China. The PLAAF would probably also not want to deploy their planes at those airports because of the security concerns.

I have, however, seen plenty of PLAAF birds at civilian airports in Dalian and Wei Hai airports. Although Dalian only seem to have a K8 wing deployed there, although I have seen a Flanker there once (could tell what model as it was parked right at the end of the runway under a shelter. I only saw it briefly as my plane taxied past it). The shelter it was under looked like a dedicated fighter shelter, as it was way too small for civilian airlines, and there are not a whole lot of small, private planes to justify such a shelter otherwise.

I know that there are dedicated PLAAF interceptor bases at both Dalian and Wei Hai, so it would appear that the PLAAF regularly uses the smaller, regional civilian airports, for the trainers at least. The fighters have their own dedicated bases.

There is a PLA aircraft maintenance facility at Dalian-Zhoushuizi, which explains the different aircraft types seen there. There is no longer any permanent PLAAF resident after 89 Avn Regt moved to Pulandian in 2008 to convert to J-11B. There is no training regiment with JL-8 at Dalian either.

By Weihai I suppose you mean Wendeng, which houses 34 Avn Regt with J-7E and is used by commercial aircraft.

In fact, several airbases, in particular naval ones, are used as civilian airports, too.

In the J-10 thread there is a reference to a new military airfield near Wuhan and they must be building one in the Jinan area, since 36 Avn Regt and the Jinan MR liaison squadron had left the airbase by late 2010.
