One comment: They should have gone with a 155 mm gun.

Why? The Chinese does not have a artillery piece smaller than 122m, which most other militaries have (the most common is the NATO 105mm). A smaller, more portable SP howitzer that is easier to transport would be a nice tool to have in the belt.

according to past issue of IDR.Soviet official admit that there 122mm HE round.l is no deadlier than US army 105mm round, even soviet standard 152mm he rd. idestructive radius is below the NATO standard 155mm round.except the 160mm mortal round.
therefore is not surprise why PLA suddent interest to replace there 152mm gun tube with 155mm gun.

Deadlier? Well 122mm piggie is larger than 105mm which means there is slightly more TNT and slightly larger jacket means bit more snarpels spreading around. Also compared to the most western 105mm, the 122mm D-30 derivates (eg. all "modern" 122mm) have longer range.

The vehicle in the pics seems to be the Type 89 tracked SP systems turret (in effect similar to 2S1) put on top of the new 8x8 wheeled vehicle. There's been past prototype projects with sligtly different turret on top of slightly different 8x8 vehicle.

Why they are producnig this system is bit odd. The SH-2 truck-mounted system is IMO much favourable system but apparently it was again only export porduct not seeing PLA service:(

It does bear some resemblance to the type 89's turret but it is much more closer to the 2S1M's Gvozdika's turret. I believe the chassis is the FUTURE 8X8 apc series.
