Isn't Nato use code name start with "F" for Soviet fighter and "B" for bombers at start of the Cold War? I assume that's where those names came from.

It's worth mentioning that as well as F for fighters, B for bombers there's also H for helos and M for miscellaneous types.
Single syllable words were used for props, two syllables for jets. So a 'CUB' has props, a 'CANDID' is jet powered.
In fighters, 'FISHBED' is a jet, FANG is a prop- La-11
Prop driven IL-38 is a MAY and so on.
ASCC names should be in capitals too, at the risk of being pedantic.

is there an actual source for all these NATO code allegations? A publication, released by NATO, where one could read all the codes?

Originally, the list was compiled by the ASCC. That's the Air Standards Co-ordinating Committee. They no longer exist, so now it's done by the 'Five eyes interoperability council'.
Googling these terms should yield a list.
