As far as Red Dawn II goes, I'm kind of pumped for it an I have Chinese friends, the original is just kind of campy silly fun, and the second should be that as well. Don't get too worked up about it; do racists come and hunt Arabs when an episode of 24 airs? I mean yeah the movie industry is totally hypocritical but not everything is a plot against China.

I saw Star Trek, and it was pretty cool, on the IMAX screen. That was nice. Not the most intelligent movie ever but I didn't expect that. Although I have come to the conclusion (using analytic military skills I have developed by practicing rhetoric with all you fellows) that the Enterprise would be totally owned in a fight witht the Battlestar Galactica.

No 24hrs is a television series based on a day when Kiefer Sutherland goes around shooting, torturing, etc all the bad guys that have got it in for Uncle Sam. There's been several series, one involving nuclear explosions in America, by terrorists and nuclear power stns blown up. There was one involving discontented administration officials trying to short circuit the presidency and so on and so forth.

Thats a fine looking boy u got there. What does a grip do?

Ive got a boy who is a animator, hes worked for Weta Studios in NZ. worked on several overseas film production. At the moment hes working in motion graphics but eventually he hopes to land a job doing the animated cut scenes in some big gaming studio.
He heard that Lucas Studio were looking for animators from the university he graduated from to work on their Star War cartoon series in Singapore, but I guess the financial up upheaval may have put the breaks on that one for a while.
Who knows maybe one day he'll end up working in some LA studio doing the special effects.

Sorry tell you but violence has resulted from movies. There were incidents of Asians being attacked when Rambo II was released. One of the very first incidents was a DW Griffith movie called Broken Blossums in 1919. It was about a Chinese man who seduced a white woman away from her husband. He was so distraught that he committed suicide. A LA crowd watching the movie were so angry that they march out of the theater formed a mob and burned down LA's Chinatown. Of course no records were kept of casualties but it's estimated a couple dozen Chinese were killed during the rampage. WHen Jack Bauer was tortured by the Chinese, there were people who were actually organizing a boycott of China. So even today there are people who can't tell the difference between reality and fiction.

i liked the new star trek movie, although i've always been in the star wars camp.

with that said, i AM a little worried about the direction of the subsequent star trek movies/tv shows. since they introduced a "alternate universe" in this film, they can completely disregard previous star trek "canons". taken to the extreme, this would mean the end of the star trek universe as we know it.

They're going to. A new launch of the TV series will probably go into pre-production sometime by the end of this year and will be seen most likely in 2010. It will be based on the new universe created by JJ Abrams' Star Trek. Most likely Paramount Studios will want something out there to compete with the live-action Star Wars TV series that's in pre-production now.

As an old fan one of my major concerns is that if the new TV series comes out we will not only abandon the old continuity but totally alter Star Trek from it is meant to be and turn it into a generic action sci-fi like Stargate, with no more of the political and moral commentary that the franchise has been well known for.

Part of me likes to think we've come full circle in a way, and the new film is like the first motion picture that reinvigorated interest into the franchise, and maybe with any luck the new series will featuring top notch writers like Ronald D Moore who was a major influence on DS9 and has done wonders on BSG. However back then Gene Roddenberry was still alive and used his pull with the studios to make sure his vision of Star Trek still placed upon the TNG series, and even after he died Rick Berman was there to keep the studios honest and loyal to Roddenberry's original vision.

But now Roddenberry is dead and Berman is retired, now that a 'watchdog' no longer has influence in paramount one wonders if the execs will have any motivation at all to stay loyal to the spirit of trek. Certainly getting rid of Berman was a good thing as his dogmatic adherence to formula essentially strangled any attempts at expanding or experimenting with the franchise, and ironically keeping it from attack the sort of hard political and moral subjects the series was always famous for, but still he kep the studios honest and that is commendable.

Well its not having people hunting another race of people more than what they think of the other. China in western countries already has bad credit to it, a movie about china invading america won't help. What really annoys me is how they think China will invade america... Their power projection is like nil. Also what comes with having a race as the bad guys means there has to be something stupid or bad portrayed by the directors with some heroic american defeating the enemy in really bad odds...
Seriously they should make a movie about America invading china (which IMO is far more likely to happen, but no they can't make the US the aggressors) or a Russian or Chinese "James Bond" movie which includes that person drives a tank in Washington or London wrecking havoc while chasing the "bad guys"..

That would be equal for you.

This year I think Transformers II will be the thing to be looked out for. The trailers are freaking awesome (won't comment on political stuff in it), but Terminator also is pretty cool. But the latest blockbusters (or "wannabe" blockbusters like the day the world stood still remake) all have some aspect of military in them more than previous films a few years ago. I think it's from the fallout of transformers I which had tonnes of military jargon which added to the effect of the movie. I fear it may soon become a cliche of sorts.

Do you mean through fire power?. Galactica reminds me of a WW1 vintage Dreadnought class battleship, while the Enterprise, a sleek nimble battlecruiser, that can duck and dive with ease while releasing a couple of phonton torps, bye bye Galatica.:nana:

whoops my mistake in the vacuum of space aerodynamics doesn't come into it ... so how would one go about making one craft more manoeuvrable than other?
