Saw "The Nice Guys" with my birthday ticket at Alamo today. Can't help but feel that it is a part of a dying breed (buddy cop or in this case, buddy P.I movies). As expected from a Shane Black movie, it was chock full of dark, at moments self-referential comedy interspersed with old-school gunplay, witty banters, genuine mysteries, and heart-felt dramatic moments. Both Ryan Gosling and Russel Crowe brought their A-games to their respective roles and although the actress who played Gosling's daughter delivered a standout performance, she felt a little too adult and competent from time to time (no doubt to contrast with her mostly inept father). The plot, as with that of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang, required full, undivided attention from the audience due to the sheer complexity and interwoven nature of scenes (no matter how trivial they appear at first glance), and frankly it felt a bit exhausting at times. Overall, I really enjoyed the film and would recommend everyone to experience it in theatre.

So I'm still waiting for the Warcraft movie to come out in Canada. It's pretty interesting that, so far, the movie is being lambasted by critics and adored by fans. Rotten Tomatoes has it at 29%, while IMDB has it sitting on 4 stars out of 5.

Lot's of hardcore fans vote a movie 10/10 before it comes out though. You'll get a better idea of a film's true score if you only average the 2-9 ratings.

Opening day in China WoW made $46 million. Given it was a Wednesday the weekend might see bigger numbers.

While the project began as based on WoW the final product is based on Warcraft, as evidenced by the title, so I think it's misleading to call it the WoW movie. Though technically it would be appropriate to refer to it as a lower case "world of Warcraft" movie. I hold out hope that one day they will indeed make a WoW movie - with Pandaren!
