Marvel does not have the movie rights for X-Men, Fantastic-4 and until recently Spider-man. Marvel owns the original IP (comics) but when it comes to movies X-Men, Fantastic-4 rights go to Fox and Sony got Spider-man. Marvel/Disney and Sony came to an agreement with Spider-man and thats why you are seeing him in Civil-War, but X-Men for the moment no chance in hell. In fact Marvel can't even use the word "Mutant" in their movies. There was some loop-hole that allowed Marvel to use Scarlet-Witch and Quicksilver but they were prohibited to use the term "Mutant" hence the term "Enhanced" in the MCU. At one time it was rumored Marvel/Disney would reboot their entire comic line killing off x-men. MCU was going to challenge the X-Men with their own "Inhumans" and related series but thing seem to have cooled down a little bit.

I think it's only a matter of money. If Marvel agrees to share the profit, Fox will come in. The problem is if they put so many super heroes in a single movie, can they still make enough profit for everyone?

However, I am seeing a new movie is coming soon; X-Men: Apocalypse. going to see it? I'm not sure because I generally don't have that much time for cinema. Fox TV is going to show Captain America: age of Ultron on its channel soon. If you missed it at cinema, you can soon enjoy it at home.

There has been some studio politics related bad blood between Marvel and Fox in the past (look up Ike Perlmutter and Tom Rothman), but things are looking brighter as a whole. Tim Miller, the director of Deadpool, is a close associate and fan of Kevin Feige and even directed the intro to Thor: Dark World a couple years ago. Hopefully they can make a deal so that Wolverine can cameo at the end of Infinity War.

Anyone looking forward to the Warcraft movie yet?

Judging from the plot summary, the movie will pay attention to both Humans and Orcs, which is a welcome change from the simplistic good vs evil plots we see so often. Further, Chris Metzen is listed as one of the writers, which hopefully will keep the movie from deviating too far from the lore.

More importantly, all the cool characters are going to be in there: Orgrim Doomhammer, Grom Hellscream, Gul'dan...

As cool as this is, I'm actually looking more forward to the Warcraft 3 movie! I want to see Thrall and Jaina, dammit!

(Oh, and they should totally make a Hearthstone movie! :p)

It might end the curse of video game movies.

I would have preferred a story focused on a group of adventurers a la a WoW expansion rather than any "origin" lore with legendary characters which to me remains relatively simplistic and unoriginal, thereby uninteresting.

But then, how would that be different from any other fantasy movie?

I also have to disagree about the "origin" lore. From what the plot synopsis reads, it sounds a lot like the story from the first Warcraft game.

It can be the "origin" story to an expansion and it would still be specifically set in the WoW.

That's what I meant by "origin" lore so we actually agree. Depending on the movie's reception we might see a reboot of RTS Warcraft.

Obviously there are many more creative possibilities with the RPG setting than the RTS but the RPG is winding down while enough time has passed for the RTS to be rebooted.

They are taking the most boring route and probably the safest one according to the bean counters following the disappointing Hollywood pattern of remakes rather than coming up with something new which they are perfectly capable of and set up to do. Which is why I bet this movie is going to be a flop as there cannot possibly be enough hardcore fans wanting to watch a feature film length RTS game and cutscene replay. Total waste of a creative opportunity.

Again, I strongly disagree with the idea that the Warcraft RTS series has less creative possibilities than the MMO. In fact, the reason WOW succeeded is because of the strong creative potential that the RTS games set up. People wanted to know what happened to Thrall, Jaina and Arthas after Frozen Throne.

Warcraft 2 had an amazing atmosphere and tone. Both the Human and the Orc side were believable. The mission briefings really imparted a sense of purpose.
