Military solution to the airport drone problem (Gatwick)

They already have one. Rafael Drone Dome comes with one.

"The system also has a laser that can melt drones, but the Daily Mail said this technology was not purchased by Britain."

"Officials said shooting down a drone remained a “tactical option” but there were concerns that any weapon used to attack the drone could inadvertently hurt people on the ground."

I still think that an airburst cannon is the best alternative, fuses today are pretty reliable right?

When laser are mature enough they may be the solution but will a laser "ricochet" if a drone is covered in mirrors?

the laser here seems to penetrate blank metal but if say 50% of the energy bounces in a concentrated beam it will melt a equal sized hole somewhere in London.

They are you don't need a hugelhugely powerful one for most small drones. And as to mirrors. NO.
The reflection of a mirror is based on the mirror being backed by a metal old mirrors used silver modern mirrors use Alluminum neither would deflect enough heat to prevent the destruction of the drone and the scattering effect wouldn't reflect enough of the light to be more than annoying.
Airburst is dangerous around people and could damage airport equipment.

Reading some comments and articles concerning the situation I believe the most practical way would be to fly another drone and ram it out of the sky.
Ready a cage drone like this;
flyability-gimbal-drone.jpg

Cover it with some sticky gum adhesive that can cling on by contact and ram it against the intruding drone.
The intruding drones will try to gain control but you only need to force it out of the air so just pull the levers to go straight down.
If you want to be creative, arm the Kamikaze drone with sticky adhesive spray and spray it on the intruding drone's rotors.
It may not stop it but is sure is going to make it difficult for the drone to maintain balance making it easier to ground it.

Latest news I heard on the radio is that so far, the police have not found any proof there was a drone/drones.The couple arrested earlier have been released and are no longer suspects.
