Many have said China has catched up or even surpassed Russia in electronic tech but..

it doesn't look like.. Russia has already shown 2 different designs of AESA on tradeshows yet China hasn't even shown a single hint of what stage in their development at. So what give.

so much for supassing....despite the fact that China has bigger electronic and semiconductor industry than russia..

maybe it doens't translate into military area that well..

I think also CHina is much better at playing with things/making improvement/making adjustments/modification at incremental rate than creating something brand new.

It's out of its comfort zone when there' re calls for new changes and new innovations.

I think it should be encouraged to design as many new systems as possible.. to help stretch out its horizon, it's OK to make some mistakes and waste some time/money... so to get it out of its funk..

Let Huawei do the job and you will see results in a couple of years! (These guys are at least on focus...:D)

Large parts of the state owned defense industries have to be thoroughly restructured (some things have been done but it's obviously not enough!) and China's new dynamic hightech corporations like Huawei or Lenovo have to be actually integrated into China's defense industry.

I think the former Soviets and Russians have designed many sub-par systems and many of them are ineffective..Only a number of the systems have became jewels.
That's OK, this way, it help them to adapt and get used to design cycle and phase..

CHina while always to consider this and that, whether system is economical, and one system fit multiple purposes. As a result, very few design got designed.

Be more brave, design more of variety of systems.

Chinese state business generally lacks innovations and good at repititve things like drill oil, making steel, cement, building road, tracks... like a bunch of zombies.

China currently has three types of AESA radars in service, Russia has none. If you want, 14th intitute can throw something together that can be fitted into the nose of a fighter tomorrow, but unlike Russians who are nowadays are all about making vaporware, the Chinese are a lot more stringent in introducing and marketing new systems.

Some known AESA RADAR developed in PRC. 052C, KJ-200, KJ-2000 are in service. I assume the SLC-2 counter-battery radar is also in service?

Variants on the KJ-200/2000

Who cares if Russia has AESA announced publicly. You could put an AESA in market and it could be completely s##t, while a nation who despite not having an AESA could still produce something that is more sufficient. Russia in the late 90 and early 21 century had equipment for sale that were more modern and advance than what their own forces had. Example was the Su-30 for sale, yet the Russians where still stuck with outdated Su-27 airframes. I think in the field of military managment China has surpassed Russia for quite sometime now. But talking anymore about this might possibly lead to an A vs B thread.

Do you have any idea of the actual progress of the Russian AESA radar? They have absolute no deployment anywhere right now with non-fighter platform. For the fighter AESA radars, they have one firm that is developing one for export market that is still in the beginning stage of testing. They have another firm that doesn't even have a working prototype. And finally, they haven't shown the capability to mass produce the T/R modules needed for AESA radars.

The fact that you see that kind of nose for J-10B should indicate it will use AESA radar.

This thread soon will be a useless and counter productive A vs B pissing thread.

Russia has always been nice toward PRC. USA OTOH is always bullying PRC.
If anything, PRC always needs to measure their progress versus USA.

I believe SU-35 contains fighter jet AESA. Yes, Russia is starting to mass produce and deploy SU-35.

What China has right now is NOT fighter jet AESA, it's based on different technologies.

Fighte jet AESA design is alot stringent and tight.

The N035 Irbis is a hybred, not a pure AESA radar. It's receive mode acts like a western AESA but the transmit mode still uses a traveling wave tube and backplane waveguide feed for transmit. In this fashion, it is identical to it's immediate predecessor, the N011 Bars, but N035 has four receive frequencies vs three for the N011 Bars and a much more powerful transmitter. This is a transitional design on the path to a true AESA.
