Re: Malaysia Airlines Plane is Missing

As far as we know, the telemetry and communication with Indonesian airline did not continue to the moment of impact. Everyone seem to assume where the plane crashed is known based only on the two non definitive oil slicks found off the coast of Vietnam. But that may be an false assumption. If the plane flew on an unknown heading only 20 minutes after the last known position, it could be anywhere within a one sixth of a million square miles, or size of France. If it flew for one hour, it could anywhere within an area almost the size of china.

I think you meant Malaysian airplane?

Btw, does anyone know what type of radar facilities either Malaysia or Vietnam has? Even if the plane stopped communicating with the outside, I would presume military installations would have the capacity to track that plane especially when it veered off its flight plan. Otherwise, how would these countries identify incoming threats?

If the two stolen passports do have a role in this plane's disappearance, I'm wondering what's the likelihood two terrorists (maybe more with real passports), disable beacons, tried to overtake the plane, struggle ensued, plane crashes in such a steep angle that most of the wreckage simply went under quickly? But I guess there still has to be some debris on top right?

I think it would really be straight out of Hollywood if this plane was hijacked and it's currently landed somewhere with the passengers held hostage. But you would think demands be made by now too.

Unless someone simply shuts down the engine and all power onboard, or some accident caused it to happen. Then plane would then probably glide some distance more before it crashed.
If all regular power on board was lost for whatever reason the technical services of the airline and the airplane maker will want to be informed in order to look for a way to prevent a recurrence. So this service will have emergency power available and will not be cut by someone shutting down the engines.

This is my thoughts exactly.

That's in addition to 999 Jinggangshan and 528 Mianyang. On the Coast Guard side, there is 3411. Possibly more enroute.

From various sources, I understand there are also the following:

Australia - two reconnaissance planes

Indonesia - five ships and one plane

Malaysia - unknown number

Philippines - del Pilar PF-15, Jacinto PF-35, Mabini PF-36, one Fokker, and one Islander plane though my understanding is they are only searching off Palawan.

Singapore - one Formidable class frigate, one Victory class corvette, and MV Swift Rescue with sub

Thailand - unknown number but has shifted to Andamen Sea per Malaysia's request based on last radar reading that the plane supposedly turned around

US - USS Pinckney DDG-91 and P3-C Orion

Vietnam - unknown number

Massive naval S & R going on in South China Sea right now to locate the plane! Malaysia, China, USA, Singapore, Vietnam, Indonesia, Philipines, Australia etc have all sent ships, helos and fixed wings to area. Most are already there.

I still can't believe they have not located not just the airplane but any debris or even any signs of a plane crash!! Really really strange. It's like the thing literally just dissapeared into thin air. I guess as they widen the search area it's only a matter of time.

Interesting if PLAN is really sending Haikou and another 071. Down there they'd have the makings of a decent amphibious assault force. Of course, in this case the mission is purely peaceful. Just shows how important a strong navy is for ensuring a nation's interests including in MOOTW and natural disasters.

It might be a little late to save many people by now, but I'm sure this will only further galvanise the leadership's belief of need for a strong navy.
