I kinda misspoke there is one small ship on duty in the Persian Gulf as we speak it's called the cyclone class about 900-1000 tons has 25mm and 50 cal guns griffin missiles and stinger missiles and yet the LCS can't be deployed there for what reason? Officially the Cyclone are classed as patrol vessels so I guess that doesn't qualify but they get the job done whereas the LCS doesn't Sadly and what is that job Combat swarm boat attacks in the literals Humm

Clarification the Cyclone class are around 300 tons and the cost for then around 70 million perboat far cry from the 700+million for a fully equipped LCS as currently constructed and I'm not saying build more of them just there are ships out there that do the same mission withoutall the controversy

Thanks for the info the cyclones grew out of a Seal requirement originally and as such they retain that capability another role the LCS is supposed to perform so that's 2 missions it does without nary a peep from the press or navy does any one see a pattern here

I remember this incident weren't they in RHIB boats or something like that really small craft for that long of a trip not the Cyclone class I may be mistaken certainly wasn't under the current administration it just another episode of the previous administration appeasement policy towards Iran

my point has been something way above 1k displacement is needed in the Persian Gulf ... sending smaller units is 'looking for trouble' ... and as they say If You Look For Trouble, You'll Find It ... heck even Burkes are approached there!

So true should never but never have been sent in RHIBS I don't remember seeing too much since the new administration took office though maybe policy change or something to stay further out to sea

I totally agree I was saying the Cyclone class is doing 2 if the missions the LCS is supposed to do for a fraction of the cost or trouble now if this RTE with new suggestions for a true frigate that is a whole different ballgame every single article I have read says have some kind of VLS so we shall see it's suppose to be done by the end of May there again we shall see heck I've read they will open it up to foreign designs That would be a first as far as I can remember
