among the aircraft participate in the display was new variant of J-8-3- called J-8DF,according to blogger J-8Df feature new radar and electronic, but his biggest improvement was replacement of fuel thirsty WP-13 with torbofan engine. while itdo not mention what kind of engine, likely pointing at WS-9 engine.

IMO these reports are simply wrong and mostly "done" by overenthusiastic amateurs ! Sorry.

First of all if You look at the J-8 on display at Zhuhai (even if labled a J-8DF) it is clearly not a J-8F since the J-8F features a typical cut out on the radome, which this one does not fueature. IMO this one is simple an updated, modernised DH with the typical black radome of all J-8H's (featuring the constant demarcation line between fuselage and radome) and are only updated avionics wise. (in fact these aircraft were simple reassigned from the former 9. Fighter Division to the now 2. FD).

Besides that fitting a WS-9 type of engine into the slim fuselage is completely impossible .... and the only other possible optiuon, the WS-14 Kunlun is as fas as I know long dead !

New J-8II still being produced until today....

New J-8II dubbed J-8G. Brand new fresh paint and primer, Engines are sparkling shiny. Looks new. Carrying a pair of YJ-91 ASM.

Actually that's not a new version, but simply the first clear(er) image of the J-8G "Wild Weasel" version armed with two YJ-91 (Ch-31) ARMs. This rarely seen type is reportedly based on the J-8H airframe and had its maiden flight in June 2001.
It features a new fire-control and ESM system in order to launch YJ-91/Kh-31P ARM and its most noticeable external feature is a semi-spherical ESM antenna under the forward fuselage behind the twin 23mm guns. The J-8G can carry up to two missiles and entered limited service within the PLAAF in 2005 equipping so far only one regiment. Since this type is rarely seems some assume it might already superseded by the JH-7A.

Basically... no matter how well the j-8 had served the PLAAF in the past, it is an old design and by now I believe there are heaps of aircrafts out there that can do what J-8 had been doing... and do it better. The PLA would not likely show much interest in this type anymore... except when they need lots of aircrafts for whatever reasons in the second line... although the aircraft might be cheap... the pilots certainly isn't.

It really bugs me when I see J8s with only PL8s. I know for peacetime CAP missions, BVR weapons are out since you want at least visual confirmation of targets before you open fire, but the last place the J8 wants to be is in WVR combat.

In a combat mission, I think J8IIs should rarely carry PL8s and instead just lug PL11/12s to make slash and dash BVR attacks. Fly high and fast, pop off a pair of PL12s and turn tail and run for home to rearm, refuel and repeat.

Does anyone have a link to the clip these screen grabs came from?

I find it odd that they would choose the J8II as a wild weasel platform since there are so many other, more suitable platforms available. The JH7A, J11B, J16, even the J10 would all make much better wild weasel platforms no matter how you look at it.

I can see the PLAAF giving their J8II stand-off PGM capability as a means to keep the relatively new airframes useful and relevant when their primary role of air superiority is starting to become the domain of J10s and J11s, but wild weasel just seems like an especially poor choice of roles for the J8II.
